I waited on pins and needles for Luka to respond.
And waited.
And waited.
I know he told me he needed to leave and go to work, but a part of me was really hopeful that his job would allow him to keep his phone on him so he could respond to me instantly.
I chastised myself for being so hung up on this stranger right away. I put the phone away, for good this time. I went into my bedroom to get my laptop off the desk and bring it with the charger into the living room, determined to play one of my Sims games I have saved to my hard drive.
I put the television on another mind numbing rerun show for background noise and forced myself to stay immersive in my game for hours. Not once looking at my phone like a desperate woman.
Six hours passed by before I knew it. But that's easy to do when you're playing Sims.
When I finally checked the time, it was after eleven at night, damn near almost midnight, my eyes starting to hurt from focusing on the laptops screen for so long. I finally shut it down, setting it on the coffee table next to my phone that I had successfully forgotten to check all this time.
I tried to keep my cool when the screen lit up with a new notification. I unlocked the screen and immediately went to the app.
One new message.
I grinned madly like a school girl with her first crush as I opened the new message.
Evening, printsessa, 😘 I hope I am not disturbing your sleep, I know our time difference will be somewhat of an adjustment as we continue to talk. I am fairly fluent in English, Spanish and German along with my native Russian 😊, it comes very much in hand with my job. I would be most honored to teach you Russian, perhaps we can FaceTime somewhere on some site where we can properly talk to one another and it will be much easier to teach you, and gives me the perfect excuse to see your face 😁. My favorite color is green, like the same green of your beautiful eyes, you are so very pretty printsessa 😍 I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you ask 'why you?' I still am unsure about the Hozier joke but Vanessa, I could for sure get used to calling you that instead. 😚
Vanessa, please tell me more about yourself, if you feel comfortable enough to of course. And please, let's use other socials so we can talk more.
Tvoya lyubov', Luka (your love, Luka) 😉
I reread his message again, blushing.
I hurriedly typed out my response, a sudden urge to yawn creeping over me. As excited as I am, this might have to be my last message for the night. I'll still have tomorrow to talk some more.
Luka, I'm assuming it's midday? At least? It's almost midnight here, and I was actually about to go to sleep pretty soon but as soon as I saw I had a new message from you, I just had to respond before I fell asleep. 😊 admittedly, I took some Spanish in high school but nothing stuck with me and I don't remember any of it besides simple greetings. 😅 how did you learn so many languages? And why? Do you have other social medias? I can include mine and you can add them if you want 😁 and what I meant was just, I'm sure there are plenty of prettier girls that are way closer to you than me, what made my profile stand out so much to you? I don't know what to tell you about myself, I always seem to forget who I am when someone asks me to talk about myself. 😅
If you don't hear from me, it's only because I'm asleep. Looking forward to hearing more,
Vanessa ❤️
I hit send and then in a new message, included the links to my instagram and Snapchat just in case he was interested in those. Then I barely managed to drag myself into the bedroom and go to bed.
