Peyton's POV

___________________

"T-Thank you for inviting me."

I said quietly, my breath blowing puffs of warm steam into the chilly, winter air.

The boy in front of me had his head turned away, but I could hear the smirk in his voice, "I just feel like it's time we put this all past us, right? I realised I might've been a bit of a jerk to you lately, and well... I'd like to make it up to you."

His ashy blonde hair peeked from under the dark green beanie, my round, sparkly eyes following him as nervously as my feet were; battling with both the snow and the slight tingly feeling in the bottom of my stomach.

"Mom said that the bond between you and me is special, anyways," the boy continued, and I listened to every single detail like the curious little kid I was. He was someone way more experienced, someone whose opinions I held dearly– someone who was, in fact, much older. Someone who I admired and respected even though he had mistreated me because, to me, he was all I wanted to be. "Which is why it's sad that we got up on this note. I'd ask for nothing else but your forgiveness, Peyton."

My eyes widened, the tingles in my stomach turning into bubbles, "Really?"

I asked, excitement lacing my words.

"Sure."

A small smile stretched my chalky lips, frost overlining every spot on my face where the snow could get stuck. My lashes were covered with a layer of ice, as well as the strands of hair that poked through my scarf.

"Of course, I... I'm okay with it. I've always wanted to be friends with you. Our parents are good friends too."

My eyes glistened in sincerity as I looked up to him, my head only reaching the edge of his shoulder. I was small, but dad had told me I'd grow out to be strong and big. I was counting those days, for perhaps it'd impress this boy.

"I guess so, yeah. Your father is a great man. You look a lot like the other one though, like, the first time you shifted I thought you'd be an omega."

I stumbled on the tall snow blanket, chuckling at him with easing anxiousness. It had frightened me when he had suddenly barged into the library, demanding to see me outside. I had been expecting the usual treatment, a bit of roughing up, but then he had asked me to go tenting with him and the guys.

"My dads thought the same too, but it doesn't matter. I would've been a great Alpha even if I'd been an omega!"

"Of course you would've."

I bit my lower lip, glancing at the back of his head as he led me through the thick woods. A tiny blush spread to my cheeks.

"You think so?" I breathed, "You've always said that... that I'm not good enough."

His laughter rang through the wind, freezing against my ears. It made my steps falter.

"Don't worry about it."

A strange, gut feeling settled into my limbs which had once again tensed up. There was something odd in his tone.

But I brushed it off.

I wanted to believe he meant it, that I was a good warrior.

"Does it mean that we could go to the practices together? You could teach me!"
