Sarah Cross reads this and frowns. Why does Torchwood have a file on Alura? She puts the file down on a desk and glances over her shoulder at Jack, who is shifting uncomfortably. "Why is she in your files?" she asks, "What’s she done that gets her a file in your archives? What does it mean, you don't know her age? She's sixteen!"

"You really don't know?" he looks surprised, "I figured she'd have told you. She's terrible at keeping it a secret," he chuckles. His eyes widen as he realizes that he really hadn't told this girl. "You really don't know. Okay then, next time I see her will be interesting."

"You know her?" Sarah exclaims, "No way, I've never seen you before, and Alura and I hang out all the time."

"She's gone for great swathes of time, right?" he asks, "She talks weird, does weird things that don't have reasonable explanations to them, and seems to be in the thick of emergencies?"

Sarah's eyes widen. "She's a superhero?"

"Uh, no. Well, maybe a little bit of one, but mainly, no," he walks over, "Sarah, what do you know about what we do?"

"You manage aliens on Earth," she says, "Save the world and stuff."

"Let’s just say Alura isn't as normal as you think," Jack grins a grin that implies that he has a secret.

"She's... an alien?" Sarah is shocked. "She hasn't done anything wrong!"

"Of course not," Jack says quickly, "Well, yes she has, but not in any malevolent way," Jack chuckles, "Oh, good times."

Her frown deepens, "What is she? Why is she so important to you, besides her being an alien?" when she sees Jacks shocked look, she grins, "You talk about her like you know her well, and you generally know extraordinary people."

"Very sharp," Jack comments, "And let’s just say she'll tell you when she wants to."

"I'm not leaving without a full explanation, Mr. Harkness," Sarah crosses her arms.

Jack laughs harder, "I see why she likes you. You've got spirit, Sarah Cross. Fine, if you insist, she can't blame me."

Sarah sits down in a desk chair and cross my legs, "Okay, so spill the beans, Harkness."

Jack sits down in a chair across from Sarah and leans forward, elbows on knees. "Have you ever heard of the Doctor?"

Sarah scoffs, "Of course I have! Who hasn't? He saves the world all the time. Alura's obsessed with him."

"I wouldn't say obsessed, more of keeping track of his whereabouts," Jack corrects her, "she just pretends to be obsessed to cover it up, to not attract attention," he grins, "She fails at that a lot."

"What does she have to do with the Doctor? Is she with Torchwood?"

"Not quite. She's his daughter," Jack leans back on this sentence, "His daughter who was kidnapped years ago. They've only recently found each other again. I think he thought she was dead."

Sarah takes a minute to process this, "That’s impossible. Her parents are dead!"

"She has to say that because she can't just scream that out everywhere. People would think she's insane," Jack says, "She can't make a couple pretend to be her parents, can she? That’s why she pretends to be an orphan."

"Why didn't she tell me?" Sarah demands, suddenly angry, "Doesn't she trust me?"

"I suppose, considering that you, too, seem to know her well. She only found out that the Doctor is her father recently. She has amnesia and can't remember her past," Jack looks sad, "The people who kidnapped her did that to her."

"She only recently found out that she isn't human?" Sarah gapes.

"Oh no, she's always known she wasn't human. She isn't just an alien, she's a magickal, experimented on alien who is related to everything in the universe," as Sarah opens her mouth to ask about the 'related to everything in the universe' thing Jack cuts her off, "We don't know how she's related to everything, she just is."

"Experimented on?" Sarah looks worried, "What do you mean, experimented on? Who experimented on her?"

"The people who took her," he sighs, "Genetic scientists. Ever wonder why she hates hospitals?"

"So why hasn't her father, you know, picked her up yet?"

Jack hesitates, "She has other things to do, but they travel together a lot. She won't tell even me what those other things are."

"Even you?"

"I've known her for centuries," he laughs at the look on Sarah's face, "She's far older than sixteen, Ms. Cross."

Sarah nods slowly. "I think I need to call her real quick," she mumbles.

"I'll give you privacy if you tell her that you forced me to tell you," Jack says, standing up. "Keep in mind, she didn't tell you protect you. Don't be too harsh on her."
