"That frog-brained idiotic smug-faced jerk!" Tsunami spat, her tail lashing and her eyes brimming with hatred. The dragonets were sitting in the sleeping caves, arranged in a semicircle and discussing Morrowseer's visit.  "I can sneak into the guardian's cave and see what they're up to since they've been acting suspicious lately," Verglas spoke up, their tail brushing Peril's.

"Hmm... That might work, but what if you get caught? The guardians might just kill you, prophecy or not," Starflight pointed out.

"We have to. I think me and Peril might be in danger," Verglas replied.

"Peril and I," Starflight corrected, which just made Verglas more angry.

"And besides, how could they harm me?" Verglas continued, pretending not to hear Starflight's snarky comment. "I have freezing death scales and death breath, remember?"

"I think Frostbi- sorry, Verglas, is right. The guardians might find a way to kill Peril or Verglas some other way. They could poison them or something," Sunny interjected, "and we need to know before it's too late."

Starflight sighed, "You guys are forgetting that I'm a mind reader. I can just sit right outside the guardians' cave and listen to their conversation and what they're thinking. And I can also see glimpses of the future where you all agree with me, so I'm just going to go listen before the guardians fall asleep." And then he turned and walked silently away, towards the guardians' cave and leaving the rest of the dragonets in silence.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"They wouldn't!" Sunny cried after Starflight told them about what he heard.
"I see it in the future very clearly, so yes, they would. Peril and Verglas are a 'threat to the prophecy' and they need to get rid of them before they 'destroy the entire universe with their death scales.' Plus, both Kestrel and Morrowseer apparently think Verglas is cursed or something, and that's why- nevermind, you don't like talking about it," Starflight replied, his eyes flashing from sympathy for Verglas and Peril to hatred directed towards the guardians and Morrowseer.
Verglas caught Tsunami glancing at the river, catching Verglas's gaze and looking away quickly. That dragonet was up to something. "Tsunami, I know you have a plan. And it's probably a good one, so don't hold out on us. Tell us."
Tsunami sighed and hesitated, then said in a low whisper, "I think the river leads somewhere, and we need to get out of the caves. I can swim out, and then find the entrance boulder and roll it aside. We can escape through there."
"Clay can come with you since Mudwings can hold their breath for a couple of hours," Starflight said, "We can also send up a smoke signal through the sky hole, so you two can find your way back."
"But," Starflight continued, getting that "lost" look in his eyes that meant he was searching the future, "Be careful when you come out of the mountain. I- I can't be sure what it is exactly, but I know there's danger waiting for you. And- Clay? Clay! Are you even listening to me?"
Clay looked up from his half-eaten pig, with a look of confusion and surprise crossing his face. "Whuh? I was busy eating."
"It's too dangerous. What if Clay gets stuck with no air, and I can't help him? He'll drown! I can't let that happen!" Tsunami argued, ignoring Clay.
"I agree," Peril interjected, leaning into Verglas and wrapping a wing around them. "It's too dangerous for Clay. He could drown. We don't even know if MudWing dragonets can breathe underwater for that long. What if it's a skill that develops as he gets older? What if he dies?"
Clay shifted on his large mud-brown talons, as though Peril had voiced his own fears and doubts.
"But we have to try if we want you and Verglas to survive," Starflight pointed out.
"Ugh, fine," Tsunami gave in, at the same time as Peril hesitantly said, "Okay, fine. But don't say I didn't warn you."
Tsunami dragged Clay away from his pig and dove under the water. Clay stood, shivering in the cold water, as Tsunami resurfaced. "Good luck," Sunny and Starflight said at the same time. Verglas waved, and Peril just leaned into her scales sadly. Her eyes followed Clay and Tsunami as they dove under the water, their ripples fading as the cave fell silent.
(Again, sorry that this chapter was so short, this particular fanfiction has shorter chapters than most of my others.)
