Rachel had live for years. She actually lost count already, probably living for centuries. That's more than hundreds of entities to live with. She traveled from places to places, countries to countries; just to avoid being spotted by people she had known in the lives she had lived.
She had helped from one family. From her fake identities, to fake passport— every fake documents she needed for a new life; biggest thanks to the Torres' family, her life long trusted companions.
After 20 years, ngayon lang siya umuwi ulit ng Pilipinas to handle the company she had built behind the scenes. Life had been way too boring for her kaya naman she wanted to do something aside from traveling.
Peter, from the Torres family serves as her right hand, bodyguard, friend— actually whatever Rachel wants him to be. Although they had been her companion, everything they own is all from her gambling, savings and whatever business she had in the past.
"Pete" tawag pansin niya nang makasakay sila sa elevator on their way sa meeting room to meet the candidates who would be presenting their pitch for their project collaboration.
"Yes?"
"Why do I have to attend this meeting?"
"Syempre they'll be presenting. You have a vote for that since they'll work directly under you"
"Pwede namang ikaw nalang? I mean, you can handle it"
Tumawa naman ang lalaking kasama niya at inakbayan siya. "Chel, you do need to mingle with your vendors. If not, what else would differ nung nasa malayo ka?"
That makes sense. Rachel nodded before removing the seemingly heavy hand on her shoulder at natawa na lamang din ulit ang kasama niya.
They entered the room and got seated at the very center. Peter had the applicants present in order with the number they were given. They can leave after they presented or stay if they want to.
Hearing pitches left and right still got Rachel bored. Applicants immediately leave after presenting, except for one who stayed till the last pitch.
That had Rachel's attention.
On her list, she was her top candidate and the ethic she had was right what she wanted.
"Pete"
"What? Water?"
Tumawa naman si Rachel. "Thanks but not that. Her" she discreetly pointed at the girl with medium length brownish hair.
"What about her?"
"I'm choosing her"
Peter nodded. Nilapitan naman niya ang tinuro ni Rachel and informed her that she is hired. Astonished, she bowed in 90 degrees at natawa nalang din si Peter and helped her up. He led her to Rachel for formal introduction.
"Let me introduce you to our head, and owner, Miss Rachel Anne Daquis. I believe she prefers to be called names rather than an honorary so you could called her Rachel"
"Pero— as courtesy"
"No buts. Maarte yan" dagdag pa ni Peter kaya hinampas siya ni Rachel.
