heart monitor
The soft glow of a desk lamp filled Mia's room, casting a warm, golden light across the space. The room was quiet, save for the occasional sound of pages turning or pencils scratching as Mia and Scott sat side by side on her bed, textbooks spread out in front of them. They had been studying for a while, both focused on their work. But as the minutes passed, the air between them seemed to shift—something unspoken lingering.
Scott glanced at Mia, watching her as she absentmindedly twirled a strand of hair around her finger, her eyes scanning the textbook in front of her. He couldn't help but smile. She was beautiful in a way that took his breath away every time he looked at her, even now, in the quiet simplicity of studying.
Feeling his gaze, Mia looked up, catching his eyes. She smiled softly. "What?" she asked, her voice teasing but gentle.
Scott shrugged, his smile growing. "Nothing. Just... you're cute when you're concentrating."
Mia's cheeks flushed, and she laughed lightly. "You're not exactly getting much studying done," she teased, nudging him playfully with her elbow.
Scott grinned and leaned closer, their faces only inches apart. "Maybe I'm distracted."
Mia's breath caught in her throat, her heart suddenly racing. The playful banter faded as the space between them seemed to shrink. Slowly, without thinking, she leaned in, and Scott met her halfway, their lips brushing softly at first—tentative, sweet. But as the kiss deepened, something inside Mia shifted, a warmth spreading through her chest.
Scott's hand gently cupped the side of her face, his thumb brushing her cheek as they kissed. Mia's hands found their way to his shoulders, pulling him closer. The textbooks were forgotten, sliding off the bed as the kiss grew more intense. The world outside her room melted away, leaving only the two of them in the moment.
As they pulled back for a breath, Mia looked into Scott's eyes, her heart pounding in her chest. She could feel where this was headed, the unspoken understanding between them growing clearer with each passing second. Scott's forehead rested against hers, his breathing a little uneven.
"Mia..." he whispered, his voice low and filled with emotion.
Mia bit her lip, feeling a nervous flutter in her stomach. She wanted this—wanted him—but there was something she had to tell him. Her voice was soft, almost hesitant. "Scott, I need to tell you something."
Scott pulled back slightly, concern flickering in his eyes. "What is it?"
Mia looked down for a moment, gathering her thoughts before meeting his gaze again. "I... I've never done this before," she admitted quietly, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. "I don't want to mess it up."
Scott's eyes softened immediately, his hand moving to gently brush her hair behind her ear. "Mia, it's okay," he said, his voice filled with reassurance. "I've never really done this before either."
