“Wow, is this what it feels like to be relaxed? I mean, my muscles are so much less tense!” Barry remarked, genuine curiosity carrying in his voice as he slowly rolled his right shoulder, letting the soothing sensation of his now acheless muscles course through his body.
“I told you it feels nice, you should try it more often,” Iris smirked playfully, the knot that had been lodged in her lower back from hours of sitting at her company’s desk having vanished faster than a speedster could run.
Maybe I should too…
“I really want to say no, but I don’t know how to when it feels this nice,” Barry joked as he gently pushed open their room’s polished front door, politely holding it open for his wife, afterwards of course.
“But then again, that may just be the two of you,” he added, a sweet smile still shining brightly on his face.
One that held a brightness that only Iris or their kids could make him feel. Which was certainly saying something considering, in the famous words which Oliver Queen had told Felicity many times throughout their time as Barry’s friends, “He smiles so often, he makes me want to punch him in the face every time I see him.”
“Well, that would certainly explain why I feel so good right now,” Iris smiled back happily, as she walked beneath her husband’s outstretched arm and into their room, doing a small twirl as she grabbed his opposite hand and pulled him inside too, wrapping both of her arms lovingly around his shoulders, and looking up into his handsome eyes.
“Well, that and that cheeseburger, but mostly you,” she laughed, joyously.
“Then you might just have to hold onto that feeling for a little bit longer because luckily for you, I have just a little special something set up for you and our little special someone,” Barry stated, his voice actually holding a decently enigmatic tone this time around as he gave his wife the gentlest of kisses on the lips.
He always seems to find a way to give me more. And there’s just no words I could say to show him how special that makes me feel.
“Ooh, any hints?” Iris grinned, jovially.
“Eh, I would give you some, but considering how great of a reporter you are, you’d probably end up figuring it out before I could finish setting it up and then, that would ruin the whole thing. Hence the surprise part and all,” Barry answered, playfully flashing a quick smile at her before slowly pulling out of their warm embrace.
“But I can promise that wherever I’m taking you, there will be food,” he added, his eyes glinting down slightly at her stomach for the briefest of moments, the thought of their little Nora’s smile bringing one of equal love to his face before he turned his attention back to gathering the minimal amount of things he needed to prepare his wife’s present.
“That’s great, because I think that’s kinda a need now,” Iris giggled, happily, as her hand just gently moved to the same place that Barry had been looking a moment ago, right to where their tiny baby would one day be.
“Just make sure it doesn’t take too long, okay? I don’t want to spend any time without you I don’t have too - not to mention I’m impatient and’ll get bored,” Iris admitted, with an honest shrug.
Just being honest.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be back in a Flash,” he winked, his voice carrying much more pride in his rather poor dad joke than most could say they felt.
Not that it mattered much to him for he didn’t really care how many people found them funny besides their kids who, against all odds, actually loved them (if only he could say the same for his wife though).
“Ah-uh.” Iris laughed, rolling her eyes at his attempt at a joke, but her unending blissful smile still never fading.
How can it with the sweetest, most romantic husband who loves me more than anything in the world, and our baby, the person we made together, here with me?
“Hey, on the bright side, you must like them at least a little bit! You know, with Nora being in you and all,” Barry smirked, lightly before he gently closed their hotel room’s door behind him, leaving at just the perfect time to avoid any form of comeback he knew his wife wanted to retort with.
“At least let me know if it’s more of a sunflower or plum kind of thing?” Iris called out to him, though the only traces left of the speedster was the tiniest gust of wind that lightly blew through her braided hair and across her rosy cheeks, its soft touch feeling just like the loving warmth that her everything always gave her.
“I guess I'll just have to go with whatever we think’s best.” she stated loving, looking down one more time at her stomach as she spoke to her baby once more, a habit she had already decided she would not be starting to break, before gently closing the hotel room’s door behind her.
Though no amount of you in me will ever make me find those jokes funny. Well, that’s not really true, I like them, I just like giving him a hard time even more. But then again, you already know that, just like I already know you…
