A town in the outskirts of a busy city is almost at its liveliest point, with high school students' release nearing its time. Buses lined up waiting for the students to come out, stores were prepping for the expected clients soon to come, parents cooking in advance of their hungry children.
The small size of the town made everything go slow. It was mundane, but cozy.
It was home.
The bell rings, marking the end of a tortuous school day. Students rush out of their classes into the halls to get home quickly. The sun shone through the passing clouds, hitting its beautiful rays at the passing students. A girl gets assaulted by one of the sun's rays, raising her hand to cover her face before she turns blind.
"It seems like it's going to be a sunny day..." she said, putting her hand down. Out of nowhere a short-haired girl jumped on top of her, scaring the poor girl.
"[Name]! There you are, I was looking for you everywhere!" the girl yelled, getting the attention from other students.
A sweat drop appeared in [Name]'s face. She waved her hand to try and calm her friend down. "Please, Amalia. Calm down. You're gathering too much attention."
Amalia rolled her eyes at her friend's antics. She then taped her in the back and started running. "Tag, you're it!"
"wha–hey!" [Name] reached her hand out to catch her but it was futile. She groaned in defeat and ran after to catch her.
Amalia started laughing as she ran down the street's path to [Name]'s house. The streets were full of life. Students walking home, some getting food; adults coming off work and back to their houses. Life was complete in this town. Nothing was missing: calmness, happiness, freedom, these are things the townsfolk had. Honestly, what could ever go wrong?
[Name] begins to slow down and breathe heavily seeing the entrance of her house. The girls reached the little gate outside of the house, exhaustion consumed one, the other didn't even break a sweat.
"Haha! That was fun. We should do this more often [Name]!" Amilia said with a toothy grin, as she opened the gate.
Said girl was trying to get air in her lungs to compensate for the lack of. "Not...a cha–*gasp* ahhnce..." she managed to say.
"Wow.... Are you out of breath?" Amalia asked, turning back to look at her. The girl received in response a 'are-you-stupid' look. "Hey, don't look at me like that! I ain't that smart y'know?"
"I can see that..." [Name] said, approaching the gate walking past Amalia.
"Well, clearly—OI." Amalia walked past [Name] and up the stairs. "Apologies right now, you nerdy-genius!" she demanded while blocking the door.
