𝖥𝖾𝖻𝗋𝗎𝖺𝗋𝗒 𝟤𝟢𝟤𝟥It was six o'clock and everyone but Logan Sargeant was fast asleep. He had wanted to make pancakes for the two younger girls, as a thank you for letting him stay with them for two weeks before he had to be in Bahrain.
So far they were decent, a few burned or just a tad bit undercooked. But he had heard a familiar sound from the coach, where he and Cassandra fell asleep watching adult movies.
The woman groaned as she rolled out of the couch, realizing it was time to get Adeline ready for school.
"Cassie, we're in for another adventure. The tiny tornado awaits."
Cassandra, still half-asleep, stumbled into the kitchen. "Adventure? More like survival. Where's the coffee?"
Adeline, with her wild bedhead, tottered into the room, eyes half-closed. "Morning, Cass. Morning, Uncle Logie. Why so early?"
Cassandra laughed, "Early? It's the crack of dawn, Adeline! Time to transform you into a school-ready princess."
Logan, attempting to tame Adeline's unruly curls, joked, "I need a manual for this. Hair styling for beginners."
Adeline protested, "No brushing, Uncle Logie! My hair likes to party."
Cassandra tossed her a playful wink. "Well, your hair is going to a school party today. A tamed one."
Logan, holding up a pair of bunny socks, teased, "How about these? They hop, just like you."
Adeline, now with bunny socks on, hopped around the room. "Bunnies are cool! But pancakes are cooler."
Cassandra, with a smirk, said, "Deal. Pancakes it is. Now, where's that missing shoe? The school bus won't wait for a Cinderella moment."
Logan held up the elusive shoe triumphantly. "Found it! Cinderella, or should I say, Adeline, your chariot awaits."
As they headed out, Adeline, with mismatched socks that you couldn't see due to her boots, and pancake in hand, declared, "Best morning ever! Let's do this every day, Aunt Cass and Uncle Logan!"
Cassandra and Logan exchanged a tired but satisfied glance. "Every day might be a stretch, munchkin, but we'll conquer tomorrow too."
The two stood on the sidewalk, waving goodbye as the school bus pulled away, carrying Cassandra's little sister Adeline to her first day back at preschool after two weeks out for personal reasons. The morning sun casts a warm glow on the suburban street, creating a serene atmosphere.
With Adeline off to school, Cassandra turned to Logan, a mixture of relief and anticipation in her eyes. "Finally, some quiet time," she exclaimed, a playful smile on her face. Logan chuckled, understanding the challenges of managing a lively three-year-old.
They decided to take advantage of their free time and went for a spontaneous stroll through the neighborhood. The crisp fall air enveloped them as they walked hand in hand, exchanging stories and enjoying the simple pleasure of each other's company.
As they passed a quaint coffee shop, Logan suggested they grab a cup to warm up. Inside, they found a cozy corner and settled in, sipping their drinks and discussing their plans for the weekend. It was a chance for them to reconnect without the delightful chaos that Adeline often brought.
Their conversation touched on dreams, aspirations, and the adventures they wanted to embark on together. Cassandra admired Logan's ambition, and he appreciated her unwavering support. The coffee shop's ambiance provided the perfect backdrop for their intimate conversation.
Later, they decided to visit the local bookstore, exploring the aisles hand in hand. Cassandra gravitated towards novels, while Logan immersed himself in the world of non-fiction. They selected a book to read together, a shared activity that strengthened their bond.
As the afternoon unfolded, they found themselves back home, enjoying the quietude of an empty house. They took the opportunity to work on a puzzle they had started weeks ago, the pieces coming together as smoothly as their relationship.
When the time came to pick up Adeline from the bus stop, Cassandra and Logan eagerly awaited her return. As the bus approached, they exchanged a knowing glance – grateful for the time spent alone but equally excited to embrace the joyful chaos that Adeline brought into their lives.
With Adeline back in their midst, the house echoed with laughter and the pitter-patter of little feet. Cassandra and Logan, hand in hand, embraced the shared responsibilities and joys that came with building a life together, knowing that each day brought new adventures for their unconventional family.
"Cassie, Oscar's FaceTiming me," Logan stated, as they had just put the girl to bed. "Answer it."
"Logan, it's been a while since we talked, considering that you're dating Cassandra now." Oscar fixed his hair, "Oh no, we're just friends. I've been helping her take care of Adeline since we have shared custody." Logan stated. "Shared custody?" "She's no longer living with my mother, due to personal reasons that I cannot share," Cassandra answered
"So she's yours and Logan's daughter, but you two are only friends?" "Pretty much, but how are you and Lily holding up?" she asked, as Logan's hand found its way to her lower back. "We've been good, I love her. She's sleeping now."
They talked for a bit more until Cassandra drifted off to sleep on the American's broad shoulder. "I'll call you back tomorrow, I've got to get this girl to bed," he told Oscar and then said his goodbyes.
The girl was oddly light but then again he had been working out lately.
"Don't leave me, I'll be cold without you." she grabbed his veiny wrist, "Fuck it." he got in bed with her.
