Booru has been missing for a while now. He ran off when I had opened the door one day and never came back. Catios and human food weren't enough for the little mister. As much as I tried looking for him, he never turned up. I put up MISSING CAT posters; I asked around the neighborhood... Nothing came from my efforts. I never really had much time to search for him since my job took up so much of my time.

I thought of all the places he might've run off to. The meadows, the noisy neighbor's house... maybe the gas station? He always liked the cheap treats I got him from there. No, that can't be right. Why would he run off to a gas station of all places?! I kept thinking... and thinking... and thinking.

The last resort thought I had was the worst. Did he run off into the woods? I always saw him eyeing the birds that flew near the trees, his teeth clicking in excitement. Might as well see it to believe it, y'know? When I got home from work, I started packing some items before venturing into the forest. I packed a bottle of water, a compass, Booru's favorite treats, a few snacks of my choice, and my cellphone. I threw on some comfortable weather-appropriate clothes. Time to go, I guess. I walk out the front door, awaiting what will happen next.

I walked through the forest, calling out Booru's name every few steps. "Booru? BOORU??" I was getting worried at this point. I pulled out the compass from my bag and held it out in front of me, only to find out the arrows with spinning in circles nonstop. Damn, did I really bring a busted compass on my first venture into the woods? That's just my luck, huh? Just then, a rustle from the bushes nearby caught my attention. I turned towards the noise, a little scared. Nothing. Ugh, this paranoia is getting to me. I continued down a straight path, the light shining through the trees dimming. My legs were getting tired as I continued on.

'It's getting late,' I thought to myself. I trudged through the woods, avoiding huge, fallen branches and tree roots. Though, upon getting tried, I started to stumble through, almost tripping over myself. Suddenly, my feet bumped into something sticking out of the ground. It released some time of cloud. It smelled of rotten wood and wet dirt. I don't know what that stuff was, but it surely shouldn't be near humans. Though, through the puff of smoke, I saw something shine. I leaned down to see what it might've been, grabbing it in my hands. It was Booru's collar.

My eyes widen as I glance around the grassy estate. "BOORU?! BOORU!! Pspspspspspsps!!" He didn't come. I sighed, officially giving up. I look down at myself, cringing. The dust had gotten all over the cuffs of my pants and my hoodie, along with my shirt. I walk to a tree, trying to dust the purple smoke off of my clothes.  I didn't seem to be coming off. As a matter of fact, it seemed to be spreading. I caught a whiff of the smell. It seemed to trace to something more... sweet. I found myself breathing in more of it, trying to pinpoint the smell. ...Cucumbers? It smelled like fresh cucumbers.

This is so confusing... I'm so tired. I'm... tired? Yeah. I need to go to sleep. Right now, in fact. I lead myself downwards, laying down on the soft grass. I glance towards the sky, a bright light fading through the trees. It's so comfortable here. I sway in and out of consciousness slowly.

"Oh."

"Sorry that this happened to you, little guy."

"By the will of the forest, may you rest in peace."

"Wait."

"A human?"

"Why is a human all the way out here?"

"Still breathing, too."

"Ah, geez. I can't leave you out here."

"What should I do?"
