"Minjeong, you can't go inside."
Minjeong shoved forward, pushing her weight against the gate keeper to forcibly break through.
"She doesn't want to see you." Mrs. Lee sighed, voice slowly rising and mimicking her 5'5" figure. "I've given you a lot of leniency in the past but if you keep causing me troubles, I will have no choice but to throw you out!"
Minjeong stopped forcing for a while and looked at her dead in the eyes. "I have to see her. You know I have to. Please, does she take her medicine on time without me? Does she bother to eat at all? She needs me and you know it."
"Well, perhaps not!" Mrs. Lee finally shouted, patience running off. "Listen, kid, I don't know what happened between the two of you one week ago but she made it clear as sky that she doesn't want to see you. The nurses have enough troubles managing her as it is now and we don't need more outbreaks because you decide to be a stubborn ex-lover!"
Minjeong stared at her dejectedly and eventually appeased into weaker plea.
"Please." She begged. "I have to see her. There is— there is still so much I want to say."
"I'm sorry, kid." Mrs. Lee shook her head tiredly and refused, "but I can't let you in without her permission. You are not a family member. Please, kindly take your leave."
She let go of Minjeong thinking that she would finally turn to go, but just when she thought the intern had given up, Minjeong took her by surprise and cut past her.
"Guards!!"
Two males in uniform were quick to seize Minjeong, and in a second she was trapped in a physical struggle she could not win.
"Let me in!" She pleaded, both arms and shoulders clasped tightly by the tall guards. She thrashed with all her might but she was little compared to the two men.
They were hauling her out physically when someone dashed through the front door and stopped them with frantic yell. "Wait! Wait! Stop!"
Ningning bolted into the lobby with breakneck speed, white coat flapping wildly as she wrapped Minjeong from behind. "I got her! I got her! I will bring her out! Please, don't do anything harsh to her."
The men looked at each other doubtfully, and Ningning gave them a reassuring nod before pulling her distraught friend outside.
"What the hell?" She shot once they were out from the psychiatry ward, eyes glaring at the shorter girl with disbelief.
"You couldn't be contacted for a whole week and suddenly you ran into the hospital looking like a mad woman? Look at you!"
She pointed at Minjeong's disheveled appearance, breathing in and out harshly. "I couldn't believe Eunchae was right about you bursting through the main gate with hoodie and sweatpants! What the hell, Minjeong? I had to cover you up from the doctors by lying that you were sick! You can't do this!"
Minjeong looked at her in daze, still unfocused and burbling. "Ningning, I have to see her. Karina. I have to see her."
"No! Stop right there!" Ningning grabbed her by shoulders again, rooting her on spot as she pierced through her eyes. "You are not going anywhere in this building looking like a complete nuisance! If the doctors see you like this after one week of unexplained leave, you are so going to be fucked!"
Her voice lowered a little at the sight of Minjeong so beaten and miserable then, and she softened. "Go home and change, Minjeong. Shower, eat, and switch into your neat white coat. I'll be waiting for you in neuro."
