We are out of everything. No food, no water, and worst of all no ammo. We traveled for weeks resting durring the day and traveling at night. My mouth dry, barely able to swallow. It's summer now, the worst season to me, always needing more water. One day we were traveling near an abandoned camping area out in the middle of nowhere, Mariam asked me.

"Can we stop? We were traveling for days now and my legs hurt like hell. Please."

Nodding I put my stuff down and sit down on a log. Shoving my hand in the middle pocket I pull out my book. It is an odd book about the fight between the Greeks and the Americans. Something in he log catches my eye. It is almost invisible against the brown surroundings. I pull out a sheath of arrows. Reaching a bit deeper I find a bow.

"Brian look at this." I say showing Brian the recently found object. He just shakes his head. What the hell? First he doesn't help Mariam then he doesn't care about a new weapon I found. He has been very negative lately and I don't want to have any of it.

"Do you even know what it is?" I ask him

"Yea, it's a bow right?"

"Yes but what does it do?"

"It shoots bullets right?" He asked even though you could clearly tell he did know what it did.

"No you idiot, it shoots arrows. We can save ammo ,if we find any, with this."

"Ya right," he says getting up from his log.

"Brian stop." Mariam says

"No I'm not going to let you push me around anymore, I have been putting up with you for a very long time and I am sick of it! Always nagging me, it gets old! Why don't you shut up for once and let us figure it out!" He shouts.

That's it. I slam my fist into the side of his ribs and feel a crack. Oops. He punches me in the side of my face leaving a mark. Kicking him in the chest, I push him up against a tree and hit him in the side of the head with a log. He returns with a an elbow to the side. Punching him the nose several times I make him bleed. I let him fall to his knees before I knee him in the face. He falls to his side and he hits his temple against the tree root.

His eyes close. His breathing stops. My heart skips a beat. I killed Brian. I look right at Mariam and she just stares at me.

"You did a good job." She tells me.

I know exactly why she tells me that. He stole from her bank account. Mine too. I can't help but feel guilty. I sling my bag over my shoulder and walk away from Brian's lifeless body.

I start to get light headed. Maybe it's because of the heat, or maybe it's because of the guilt. I can't focus on that now because I have to protect Brian's daughter, Mariam.
