"This shift is a marathon, not a sprint. Eat." George said to Izzie as she just stared at he food. He turned to me and said, "You also need to eat, you'll be hungry later."
"I'm not in the mood to eat. Popping zits and pimples kinda get to you." I said
"You try eating after 17 rectal exams. The Nazi hates me." Izzie says while groaning
"The Nazi's a resident. I have attendings hating me." George says while complaining.
"That must suck, they all adore me." I say will grinning widely.
"Oh shush." Izzie says while I laugh
"You know Meredith is inbread?" Christina says changing the subject
"Like it's uncommon around here to be a doctor's kid?" George says while having his mouth full
"Hey! Don't talk with your mouth full!" I say, scolding George
"No, I mean royally inbread." She added "Her mother is Ellis Grey."
"Shut up, the Ellis Grey?" Izzie exclaims
My eyes widened in surprise "You've got to be fucking kidding me. Are you joking?"
"Who is Ellis Grey?" George asks genuinely confused.
"The Grey Method?"
"OMG. Are you dumb!"
"Where'd you go to medical school, Mexico?"
I cover my mouth trying to hid my laugh
"She was one of the first big chick surgeons, she practically invented the abdominal CT-"
"She is a living legand, she won the Harper Avery. Twice!"
"So I didn't know 1 thing." George says while looking down
"Aww it's ok Georgie" I pinch his cheek trying to make him fell better
"Talk about parental pressure." Izzie is whispers staring at her food.
"I would kill to have Ellis Grey as a mother." Christina says leaning back
"No I will kill to be Ellis Grey. All I need is one good case, and boom."
"Katie Bryce is a pain in the ass." Meredith grumbled slamming her food on the table, making me flinch at the sudden loud sound
"If I hadn't taken the hippocratic oath, I'd Kevorkian her with my bare hands." She states angrily
"Did you know that he got away with over 100 murders? At the time it was actually just considered illegal physician suicides." I rambled on. "I can't believe they called him the angel of death, and he also somehow believed that dying isn't a crime. I mean it's not, but murder is though right which makes no sense. Right?"
They all just stared at me
"Good afternoon interns! It's posted, but I thought I'd share the good news personally. As you know,the honor of performing the first surgery is reserved for the intern that shows the most promise. As I'm running the O.R today, I get to make that choice. George O'Malley." Dr. Burke states while patting his shoulder.
"Me?" George says still chewing his food.
"You'll scrub I. For an appendectomy this afternoon. Congratulations. Enjoy it" Burke says not amused while walking away.
"Did he say me?" George says still shocked
"Yes Georgie. He said you. Good luck!" I say to him before walking away
TIME SKIP
"I've seen his file. George O'Malley barely made the cut to get in this program. He's not you guy." Bailey says while I just walk along side her and Burke talk
"He's my guy, all right." Burke says with no emotion in his voice. Does he have no emotion.
"Every year you pick your guy, and every year your guy suffers more than any other intern." Bailey scolds while going through her charts
"Terrorize one, and the rest fall in line." Burke exclaims walking away
"I get it, I respect it, but George O'Malley's a puppy." Bailey walks away with him while I stay back in walk to Katie's room
"Katie Bryce, 3604?" A women, who I assume is Katie's mom asks a nurse passing
"It's right there." The nurse responds
"Thank you."she says walking into the room
"Katie, honey, mom and dad are here." She says while touching Katie's head
"They gave her a sedative for the C.T scan, so she's a little groggy." Meredith states filling them in on what's happening
"Will she be all right?" Her mom asks worried
"Our doctor at home said that she might need an operation. Is that true?" Her father asks us
"What kind of operation?" Her mother questions
"Shes uhm-" I start
"Well you know what? We're not the doctor. Well are the doctor, but we aren't Katie's doctor, so we'll go get him for you." Meredith sates while dragging us out the room
"What?" Bailey says out of nowhere
"Katie's parents have questions. Do you talk to them, or do we ask Burke?" Meredith asks for the both of us
"No, Burkes of the case. Katie belongs to the new attending now, Dr. Shepherd. He's over there." Bailey says before walking away
Meredith stares at him shocked
"So are you just going to stand there or are we going to go over to him?" I ask her with a questioning look
Derek looks our way while Meredith grabs my hand and pulls us away
