THE SPIRITS HATE YOU

﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎

IT WAS HALF an hour before there was a knock on her door and Josh's sing-song voice saying, "(F/N)? You there?" He was impatient as he repeated, "(F/N) ...Helloooooo?"

"Josh?" (F/N) called out.

"What are you thinking about the spirit board, huh babe?"

"Why not?" (F/N) sighed, opening her door and making her way into the hallway (which was significantly colder than her room somehow), "But I can't promise I'll stay long."

"That's my girl." Josh grinned boyishly at her. He then offered her a hand, "Milady."

"Why thank you." (F/N) grabbed his hand and allowed him to lead her to where Ashley and Chris were. The duo was on the second floor a bit deeper into the house.

"(F/N), hi!" Chris greeted, his voice cracking a bit from the surprise of seeing the girl again. It was clear neither he nor Ashley expected her to show up.

(F/N) blinked at the outfit Chris was wearing, "Why are you dressed like a monk?"

"Found it." Chris shrugged.

Josh moved in front of (F/N), pulling out the chair in front of her. "Take a seat."

(F/N) did and made eye contact with Ashley who was sitting across from her. "It was screwed up, what Emily said..." Ashley started nervously.

"It's fine, I'm over it." (F/N) brushed off, even though she wasn't truly over it. She would hold onto that grudge as long as she could. She adjusted her seat and motioned to the table, "Are going to do this or not?"

"Yeah, let's get a move on, guys," Josh added as he lit the candles around the table with a match.

"Okay, okay. I'll read it..." Chris read some of the words, then said, "So it says here: "to communicate with the spirit world you must free your mind of all preconceptions, drop all inhibitions and generally give yourself over entirely to the will of others, sublimating your every desire to the whims of the Spirit-master," which is me—"

"It doesn't say that—" Ashley intervened as Josh sat down across from Chris.

"You made that up." (F/N) chimed.

Chris ignored their words and continued to pretend to read, "...and all present will remove their garments at my sole discretion—"

"Chris, come on, this is serious—" Josh gave his friend a pleading look.

Chris gave a chuckle that could only be compared to a cartoon, "Oh, I'm deadly serious." He said in an old-timey voice.

"Oh, shush it," Ashley motioned to the board, "let's try this."

"Yes please." Josh nodded, giving Chris a look.
