the sky is dark and new snow coated the streets. the letter is placed on Coriolanus's doorstep and you finally feel at peace. you see a window get flooded with light and take that as your cue to leave

there's no one out this early as street lights barely flicker on and stores stay tightly closed. you think about the formal and how you'd have to go, alone and now, exposed.

that's how you feel at least, you recite your sentences over and over, wishing you had an eraser and letter opener, that way you could run back to his porch and hide your words. but, you don't.

finally, your feet take you back home and you rest in your bed until 8 pm, when the formal will begin.

.

the hand of your clock rests on 7 and you rise out of bed like a corpse before stumbling to the mirror

you yawn and flatten your hair, deciding that this was good enough before turning to the door where your mother stood, shaking her head

"you couldn't go like that even on a school day! sit down." she ordered and you were too tired to fight, slumped on your desk chair she fiddled with your hair and your mind wandered to Coryo

did he read it? he must've. what could he be thinking? does he hate you?

your mind races, and so does the clock, your mother spins you to the mirror and suddenly you're dolled up. lashes coated in black goop and cheeks red with your hair up, she smiles and pats your shoulder

"I'll leave you for the rest." her head nods towards the dress still hung on your closet door, she exits the room and you crept towards the fabric as if it would bite you.

the dress molds to your body like a second skin as you reach behind for the zipper, eyes going to your clicking clock to see you're 10 minutes past 8

you cursed under your breath and slipped your heels on, tapping your shoes to the front door as your mother hurriedly pushed your coat over your shoulders

you raced out the door as fresh snow lightly coated your hair, you didn't even look at Coryo's house when you passed it, but you did notice one thing

the letter was missing.

.

you heard music softly playing when you entered the school, you hung your snow-covered coat up and sped-walked to the ballroom

you heard sniffling when you turned down the hall, only to see a familiar snowflake dress puddled around Clemmy

her and Sejanus sat outside the ballroom as she wept,

"he didn't show!"

your brows furrowed, wondering why her date ditched her until you realized, and then, you sprinted out of the school.

Coriolanus was her date.

why didn't he show?

suddenly, heels were no problem for you as you ran down the sidewalk, mind racing as you thought of a million things at once

he read the note!

does he feel the same way?

is he just late?

could this be a mistake?

all of those thoughts crashed when you slammed into another person, embarrassment pumped through your veins as you backed up and collected yourself

"I-I'm so sorry! I didn't-" you looked up to see a suited Coriolanus, with an envelope tight in his grip

"Y/n.." he whispered and you felt tears sting your eyes as his expression stayed unreadable

"Coryo..."

"I love you too"

he reached out and your lips met, snow fell around you both as his hands cupped your cheeks, you knew you were a fool for trying to suppress him, and your love.

"I wish you told me sooner" he mumbled on your lips, you smiled, nodding slightly

"I wish I knew sooner"

his eyes traveled lower and he saw your dress, he smiled as he looked back up at you

"I'm so glad I finally got to see your dress, you look beautiful" You felt shy at his words, but he took your hand and you two walked

"Now, let's go to the formal."
