ELENA FELT NUMB as she stared at herself in the mirror. She could barely recognise herself because she looked nothing like she used to. It was the funeral yesterday, so her face was still puffy from the amount of crying she had done. Even though they were red and swollen from the crying, her eyes had a lifeless look to them. They were so dull and empty that she sometimes wondered whether she was still alive -- she certainly didn't feel like it.

She felt guilty that she was alive; she felt guilty because she was the one who trusted Elijah and the one who let everyone die in the ritual. It was only because of Damon that her childhood best friend, Caroline, and Tyler were alive.

Elena was still haunted by the fact that she had trusted Elijah. She hated him for betraying her, but there was this feeling in her chest that tugged her towards him and all it made her want to do was rip herself apart. How can she still love this man when he did the one thing she couldn't forgive? She hated him but she hated herself more for still loving him.

She had decided that she needed more information about his betrayal than the others could give her. Her mind was in chaos and she knew that if she had some decent answers then some of that havoc might cease to continue. But that meant that she would need to find Elijah, though the problem was that he didn't seem to want to be found.

She thought about where he would be and figured that he wouldn't be hiding in plain sight; the last place she hadn't thought of was the woods.

Instantly, Elena grabbed her scarf and placed it around her neck, feeling its warmth before she left her house.

When she reached a point in the woods that she didn't recognise and was about to abandon her search, she saw him.

Abrupt rage boiled inside of her, as she looked at him. He looked so calm and at peace and it made her want to hit him. How come he was at peace knowing he had broken her?

Angrily, she stomped over to him, snapping twigs as she walked.

Elijah turned around to face whoever was walking up to him and, when he saw Elena, his face paled, eyes widening.

She was now stood in front of him with a fire in her eyes that made Elijah feel nervous about what she was going to do.

"You," Elena snarled, anger filling her voice. "You betrayed me!"

He went to speak but she stopped him by pointing an angry finger at his chest -- she was not done with her rant.

"You, the noble Elijah, broke your word," she yelled, her rage taking over. "And you said that you wouldn't! Why? Why would do this to me?"

Elijah was silent and that infuriated her. She wanted him to confess; she wanted to know the exact reason he chose to betray her.

She hit his chest but he didn't move. He was an immovable object and it made her feel livid. She continued to hit him on the chest, punching and smacking him but still it didn't help her calm her anger.
