David woke up, recalling the events from last night rather easily, for once. He remembered that his first training mission was later today, as well. David quickly got dressed, pulling on a trench coat he almost never wore. He rode down the elevator, ignoring the body from last night, which was surprisingly still there. He held his nose, and swatted a few flies, but to no avail. He walked out of the elevator and began heading to the inner city so he could train before his mission.
After arriving at the hideout, and getting to the Training Center, David began training. The Shooting range, the punching bags, the weights and obstacle courses. It seemed like he was everywhere. David challenged a friend to a boxing match. He didn't win, but got close. That was good enough for him. "Hey David. Ready for your mission?", Adrian came by, carrying a rifle with a silencer on it. "Right now?", David asked, as he was given the rifle. "Mhm. Get your gear, and get ready.", Adrian responded. David nodded, and went to the locker he was given when he joined. He put on his Stealth Suit, and loaded his Rifle, keeping it on Safety for now. He walked to the truck they were taking. It was a semi, which was going to drop them off when they were near the corporate tower. The Semi started up, as we all prepped up. "So. Who's going to be overwatch?", a man asked. "I will. Taking out the guards will be easy.", another man responded. "Alright. The rest of you come with me inside. Hey, David, can you handle some C4?", the first man asked. David nodded, as he was given a case of C4. "I was a demolition expert in the military. This won't be much different.", David spoke. "Ey, we're comin' up on yer stop.", the driver told them. David got up, preparing to get out. He slipped on his helmet, as did everyone else. They jumped out, the one man running to get to a vantage point. David busted the door open with a football charge, as they shot down a few guards. David set C4 on the pillars on the first floor, then went up with the rest. They took the stairs, because you never take the elevator in an emergency situation. "Alright. Jane, go to the right and take cover. Prioritize targets. I'll go to the left. David, go right up the middle, guns blazing." David and the man switched weapons. They reached the floor they were looking for, near the top. They carried out their plan, David mowing down enemies, easily. A Stray bullet from a man in a suit and tie cracked part of David's visor. He ignored it, and killed him. "Looks like he isn't getting up again.", David remarked. The man saluted to Overwatch, as they began going down the stairs again. "So, who were these guys?", David asked. "You know those cliche business men who aren't really nice? That's them.", Jane answered.
David looked over his helmet, while his team mates celebrated with drinks and food. He began walking to the exit. Jane walked after him. "Hey, where are you going, David?", Jane asked. "Home.", David answered, barely even attempting to explain. "David, wait. I know that you just want to go home so you can just be alone, but that's no way to live.", Jane spoke to him, "You need people in your life, or you'll go insane. Like me. I was on the cusp of insanity when I was abandoned as a child. Nobody took care of me. I was starving, and I was barely holding on. Then people who I could trust found me, and cared for me until I was strong enough to move on. You need to find that strength too, David."
"It's not like that, Jane. My wife and son are both dead, and I just want to be alone.. and, to be frank, I don't trust any of you yet. We're all just machines here, designed to kill... if there's a glitch in any of our systems, it could mean the end."
"But, what if, perhaps, that wasn't the case? Perhaps a glitch in the system would make us better? Cause us to excel beyond human comprehension? If that's the case, then we're more than human, David."
"Maybe so.. alright, screw it. I'll stay for a few minutes."
David did stay for a few minutes, and then a few more minutes after that. And, after about an hour of having fun with his new found friends, he began going home. For the first time in what seemed like an eternity... he smiled. He was glad to be around people. He could trust them now. So, David walked home, through the slums of the city, to his apartment building. He wore his street clothes over his combat suit. Nobody really noticed, and even if they did, they wouldn't pay any mind to it. David entered the elevator, and went to his floor. He went inside his apartment, and got some rest. He knew he'd have another big day tomorrow. He wasn't sure why though... he just had a feeling deep down in his gut that something bad will happen, but something good will also happen. He'd just have to see what'll happen tomorrow.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, a man in a suit was riding an elevator up to the very top floor of a large building. He seemed in a rush. As the doors opened, a voice sounded, "You're late, Tom."
"I- I'm sorry, sir. It won't happen again, I swear.", Tom apologized. "It had better not. Now... is our little 'friend' dead yet?", the voice sounded again. "No, sir, I'm afraid not.", Tom spoke again. The Voice sighed, as steps echoed throughout the room. "I want this guy dead, Tom.", he spoke, ominously. "Y- Yes, sir. I'll deploy another assassin.", Tom began walking out. "No. Let him come to us...", he finished, letting Tom leave.
Well.. how about that? David had a touching change of heart, and we meet our villain. About time, I say!
