KALIYAH HAD IMMEDIATELY gotten up early, full of energy and excitement for the day ahead. She had made up her mind that today would be the perfect day to explore the city with her brother and mom. It had been a minute since she'd really spent time with both of them like this, and she was looking forward to seeing what New York had to offer beyond what she'd seen so far.
Her brother, Darrian, had mentioned before that he had a group of friends other than Dd, and she was curious to meet them. If they were anything like Dd, she figured they'd probably be a wild bunch, but she was down for it. They were starting school in just one more week, and she wanted to get familiar with her new surroundings before the real chaos of school began.
