You laid under the sun, a large sack of something next to you. Your breath visible in the air. "Don't scare me like that! Are you serious? I thought you were injured. Can you seriously stop?" I yelled, obviously worried. Then Marie, you laughed. Do you remember that? You laughed and picked yourself up. "Woah, woah. Slow your role. If anyone's dying, it won't be me. I'm here till you aren't alright? Didn't know you cared that much about me..." You spoke.
Those words
I couldn't feel them through the atmosphere.
They felt shallow. I could see through your lie.
I walked over and embraced you, wrapping my arms around your torso. I could tell the fish was doing you no good. Your ribs flashing through your flesh told me otherwise. "We'll be okay." You said rustling my hair.
There was a hole in my soul, and you filled every bit of it.
If I live to see the shore I don't think I'll ever let anyone in the same way I did you Marie.
That day all we did was sleep. You could sense something was wrong and knew I wasn't in a position to work. That was one of my favorite things about being loved by you, the way you could read me like a book. Despite us only just meeting a few weeks ago you adapted to me quite quickly.
The next day, you woke up abruptly and sprinted to the outer deck. I slowly followed to find you heaving and hurling at the edge of the boat. "Shit, are you okay??" I panicked holding your hair back. You continued to hurl for about 4 minutes until you collapsed to the floor visibly in pain. I remember my brain feeling fuzzy and running to grab the water. I remember you looking up at me, eyes glossed.
Again we rested.
As well as the next day.
And the next.
Again,
And again.
