The 17 year old Hawaiian stairs out the window looking at the beautiful ocean as she blasts Baker Boy through her ears. Cora pulls out an airpod when she hears her cousins Poppy and Manu bickering about Poppys driving.
"You need to indicate Pops" a grumpy Manu says as Poppy swerves the the left.
"I know what Im doing Manu." She says as she almost hits another driver.
"You know I could drive? Got my permit before I got here. Dad says I'm a pro." Cora says cheerfully.
"Yeah, no ways. We need to get there safely in one piece. No offence Cory." Manu says using the nickname he called me growing up.
The three continued driving, Cora with her airpods in, Poppy driving like a maniac and Manu trying not to have a panic attack.
POV Cora
"Oh my gosh stop hassling me!"
"Just change gears from second to first."
"You know none of this wouldve happened if I drove." I say laughing at the two.
I open the door once Poppy parked in the tightest stop possible.
"Im gonna make sure I can still compete. I will find you guys later." I say grabbing my board and bad with my clothes.
"See you later."
"Love you." Are the last things I hear before I put my airpods in and start playing some Jack Harlow.
I walk into the building and look around. I see the wave pool and a desk with officials. I make my way towards it and feel my board get knocked out my hand and brace for impact but that never happens.
I open my eyes and see this boy with pink hair stairing down at me.
"Watch where youre going. Cant have a pretty girl like you falling." He says to me as he stands me up.
"Thanks." I say and walk away. So much for first impressions.
I talk to the official and they give me a purple vest and point me in the direction of the changing rooms.
I change into a blue binki and my wetsuit but only half of it on because its so hot. I tie my hair into a messy bun and lock my bags up.
I make my way outside and see Poppy with a group of other people looking really awkward. I decide to make my presence known.
"What did I miss?" I say making everyone turn to me.
"Oh guys, this is my cousin Cora. Shes from Hawaii and a major upcoming surfer there. Shes spending the Summer with us and competing today." Pops says proudly.
Yes Im kind of a big deal back at home since Ive won many competitions and am gaining more international recognition. I was even featured in a few surf magazines
"Hey."
"Hows it going?" Gets said. Everyone here is so smiley.
"Wait youre Cora Tetenui, you won the Hawaiian championship games last year?!" This pretty blonde girl says excitedly. Gosh I can already see myself getting annoyed with her.
