Your name is Y/N and you've just moved to Granite Falls, Minnesota. It's a quiet—albeit small— town with a reasonable cost of living. Which was what drew you to the place, though wanting to be as far away from your family in Nevada was also a key factor. You wanted an escape and Granite Falls seemed pretty damn good. It was cute in that small town way. The people were friendly by the looks of it. Though, you didn't care much for how the people were. So long as they weren't anyone you knew, you were fine. You didn't bother to tell your family about your move. You were old enough to make this decision after all. You slowly over time packed your belongings into your beat up old 1993 Jeep Cherokee. You didn't want to alarm your overbearing family of your move. How else would you explain your reasoning to leave? Your mother was overprotective and always monitored your every move. Ever since a kid went missing while camping here, she was never the same with you.
However, your father was merely a man in the house. He barely spoke to your mother and you might as well never existed. You had no idea what law of nature kept your polar opposite parents together, but you wished it would stop. Which led to where you were now. Everything in your room had slowly migrated into your old Jeep and you drove off. You had interviews in two days for a job and money saved to keep your rent and necessaries paid for. This was, admittedly, years in the making. You wanted to be far from the complications of your family and move on with your life. You were in your mid twenties for crying out loud! You weren't going to spend it living with your mother who still took your phone after eleven. You did love your parents, but it was too claustrophobic to be in that house.
Your road trip felt agonizingly slow. You wanted to be in your apartment on your blow up mattress watching CSI and eating your way through a bag of popcorn. You rarely stopped to sleep or even eat, however maybe a part of you was simply nervous. What awaited you in this town? Friends? A real and fun life with people you age? You never had the experience of staying out late and god forbid you were with someone your mother didn't know personally. The idea both excited you and scared you, but in a good way. Your hands gripped the soft fabric of your steering wheel cover as you saw it; a big sign that was a neatly made plate with stone columns on the sides that read 'Welcome to Granite Falls'. It was simple and modest, which probably fit the town. It filled your stomach with nerves and you looked down at your modest and small GPS. It's screen was dim but hey, it got you to point A to point B.
As you turned down the road, you fell down a stretch of empty to an old diner; though now it sat vacant and ruined. A damaged sign just at the base of it now reading 'Freddy Fazbear's' at the base of it. The ceiling looked concave and the inside was damn near rubble. THough you didn't get a real good look, the sight still felt a bit unsettling. He pushed the sight to the back of your mind as you drove down the road and turned into a suburban neighborhood. Turns out the reason your home was so cheap was the school next to it; Granite Falls Elementary and the middle school respectively sat just two blocks away from your home.
Which you came to find out was a rather small home. Not that you were complaining, at least it was a roof over your head. The time you arrived was around six o' clock, two days after your initial departure from your old home in Nevada. The sun was already setting when you pulled into the small driveway; which you had mother nature and winter to thank for the sudden darkness so early in the night. Your new landlord instructed you where your keys were, simply tucked away on the windowsill. You climbed out of your Jeep to the front door, peeking over to see the key neatly wedged in, just as she said. You were lucky no kids came and stole it or maybe this town didn't have a rowdy group of snot nose kids. Either way, you turn the key into the door. The home was clean and very open, which was nice due to its size. For a cheap home, the landlord sure did take good care of it. You couldn't help but feel the giddy butterflies as you started to place boxes in their respective spots.
