For the rest of your Sunday afternoon you thought more about Mike. It was starting to feel like an embarrassing school girl crush. The fact you quite literally spent all night talking to him didn't help at all. Something about him just made you go crazy. You couldn't remember the last time you felt a crush develop so fast since... Ever? Your hometown wasn't exactly crawling with attractive people. Let alone any you had the courage to talk to. Your mother disregarded any idea of you dating and you weren't much in the mood to fight her about it. But now with your new found freedom? Maybe it was just you wanting to feel rebellious with someone. Maybe, you just were ready to jump the gun and be with someone just because you could be. It all felt.. Overly complicated. You decided to tuck it away.
To keep your mind off it, you did a few chores. You shoveled the driveway free of snow and checked your mail. You also did some work related stuff, mainly making important phone calls while you unpacked another box and put up the rest of your decor. You were lucky to have the opportunity to work from home. You did your job well though it was easy. It paid the bills well enough after all. After you finished your work, you took a nice hot shower. Then, Mike once again ran through your mind. He might as well pay rent with how often he's in there! You couldn't help but pout. What about him made your brain short circuit? Was it his adorable laugh? Was it his guarded disposition? Or his kindness? You just gently set your head on the shower wall, letting the water roll over your back... It was a mix of all of it.
As you stepped out of the shower and dried yourself off, you heard your phone go off. You looked at the name and had to do a double take. Speak of the devil and he shall come. You picked your phone up. 'Hey.' He texted. You sat down on your toilet seat as you stared at his text. You tapped your finger on the side of the phone. Why were you over thinking a hi back?! You huffed before texting him back, 'Hey! What's up?' You really overlooked that to make sure it didn't sound too much. All over a boy. A part of you really denied this was just you wanting to rebel. No, you probably—most definitely—liked this guy you met just four days ago! You bit your lip before hearing a quiet beep from your phone. Your head snapped back down at your phone.
'Well I wanted to see if you wanted to go on a "boring" nature walk tomorrow. Abs will be in school and I don't work until later that night.' Oh... Oh, your heart skipped a beat. He was asking you out. Well not out but still! You fumbled with your phone before texting him back. 'Sounds good, I'm down old man :)' You pulled yourself off the seat before quickly getting dressed in your room. You had no idea what to wear, looking into your closet. You heard the ping of your phone, rushing to the bathroom and taking it off the counter top. 'I'll make you take back your old man comments. Trust.' You audibly laughed. Even if you did enjoy it, you weren't just going to let him live it down. 'We'll see about that, old man. :P' You texted before going back to your room. You looked to your closet and started shifting through it. You had to wear something cute. Even if it wasn't a date, you had to give an impression for your first hangout with Abby.
You spent the rest of the night prepping. You and Mike agreed to take your jeep as his poor Honda was not going to get through the snow. You then had to clean out your Jeep. Not that it was incredibly messy, but it still needed a good cleaning due to your move. Admittedly, any spare boxes you had left inside were thrown into your garage. You didn't have the energy to unpack nor really the patience. With that, you cleaned your Jeep and picked out a nice outfit for the next day. You ate dinner and looked through your computer for information on any trails nearby. You assumed Mike knew most—if not all—of them, but you wanted to at least look! You also were nervous and restless for the next day. You agreed to pick him up from his house after he dropped off Abby at school. You did offer to take her, but he insisted he rather you just pick him up.
You spent nearly the rest of your day looking into the trails. You only stopped once you noticed yourself nodding off. You walked to your room sluggishly, rubbing your eyes as you opened your closet once again. You changed into proper pajamas before crawling into bed. Pulling the blanket over yourself as you nestled into your air mattress. You probably should get a proper bed, but that was for later you to worry about. You closed your eyes, easily drifting to sleep. You couldn't wait for tomorrow to come around...
You were in a campsite. One you remember seeing many years ago. Your parents were just a few feet away, talking as they were pitching the tent. You looked down to see a gray sweater with blue shorts and beat up red sneakers. Before you could process it, you looked up to see a family next to yours. A mother and father with their two boys. One looked about your age and the other a few years younger. The youngest was running around with an airplane while the other watched his parents banter. He felt so familiar, but you couldn't place it. You stepped closer to them, trying to get a better look at the older brother. Before you could, the mother noticed you.
She had such kind eyes as she looked at you. "Oh, hell there." She chimed, "You must be our camping neighbor." You felt a shy blush creep on your face before you nodded. The older brother turned to look at you. His eyes widened looking at you, as did yours. As the mother was about to speak, her husband offered her a burger. He gave you a small smile, though he looked just as friendly as his wife. The boy was too busy staring at you to notice his mother talking. His attention snapped when she accidentally knocked over her soda. "Oh, geez. Mike, could you watch your brother while I grab a towel?" She said, before moving away. Your heart dropped at the name mentioned. There was no way... He had turned to watch his younger brother, only to be distracted by a frisbee.
When you turned to look at his younger brother, he was gone. Your heart starts racing. No... It couldn't be. Suddenly, you were at the tree line, watching a full grown Mike chase a car. He cried out for Garrett—his younger brother's name from what you gather—only to stop in his tracks. Inside the car was no doubt his brother. You heard twigs snap, making you jolt and turn away from Mike. Before you, stood the small child who was taken. You were now your full grown self as well, though wearing the same thing you wore that day. "Garrett..?" You whispered, to which he just stared at you. He smiled a bit, "Tell Mike.." He started, though suddenly you shot up from your sleep. Now yourself in your bed. It was a dream. No, a memory. At least, the first half was. The kid that set your mom off was Garrett. Mike's little brother.
