Grayson

Kristin stared down at her hands, disbelief clouding her features as she looked from her fingers to the rogue laying before her. Her hands shook as her chests rattled with each breath, turning her gaze on me.

Her eyes were back to normal. No reminisce of blue, or gold, just those pale green eyes that I had fallen for the moment they landed on me.

"I'm so sorry," she stammered. "I don't - I don't know what happened. I just got so angry."

I stood frozen, unable to comprehend what had just happened myself. Wolves were strong, yes, but in our human form, we were simply that, humans. She shouldn't have had the strength in her bare hand to crush his windpipe with a simple squeeze.

"Grayson, I'm sor -."

Instantly, I crossed the distance between us, wrapping my arms tightly around her. I wasn't sure which one of us was more shaken up. What she had just done wasn't normal. There was something going on that was bigger than we both realized, something within her. And she wasn't aware of it.

She had no idea that her eyes had just glowed the brightest blue I had ever seen. It wasn't human - it wasn't wolf either. And I had no idea what it fucking meant. But whatever it was, it was the reason they wanted her.

"It's okay. I would've done the same thing," I reassured, pressing my lips to her forehead. Her skin felt like ice. "Come on, let's go home. You're freezing."

Kristin nodded, turning to look at the corpse one last time. Her brows knitted together as she tilted her head to the side. But whatever she was thinking, she didn't voice as she turned to back the direction we came.

When she was at the tree line, I turned to my two best friends and my warriors. Each of them stared at her, as if she were a creature they had never seen, and it struck every protective nerve in my body. Whatever was going on with that girl didn't make a single difference to me, I'd protect her with my life if I had too.

And maybe I as an Alpha I shouldn't have, but Acel's power wrapped around me like a vice, an unspoken agreement between us as I mindlinked to each one of them.

"Breathe a word of this to anyone, and I'll kill you myself."

"What are you gonna do?"

I looked up from my drink at Seth, finding Asher standing beside him at the end of the hall. None of us had uttered a word to one another since this morning, each of us following Kristin in silence before we headed our separate ways.

"What do you mean?"

Asher scoffed, and I glared, raising a brow.

"About the fact that your mate killed someone with only the grip of a handshake," Asher clipped. "Oh, let's not forget that her eyes change to three different colors at any time, I'm honestly having trouble keeping up. Tomorrow they'll be pink."

"Asher, honestly, do you hate your life that much," Seth asked incredulously.

"It's actually quite great, when my Alpha and best friend are threatening to murder me."

I sighed, shaking my head and swirling my whiskey.

For the first time since becoming Alpha, I felt uneasy, unsure of what my next step should be. Kristin was my mate, an official member of my pack, but after this morning's events, she brought a bigger threat to my pack than I was aware of. It wasn't as simple as taking in a lone wolf and offering them protection anymore.

They wanted her. They wanted whatever it is that she could do, a capability she wasn't even aware of. And I had a feeling they would take extreme measures to get her.
