Kristin

Four words would be all it would take for hell to break loose.

The sharpest knife in the world wouldn't be able to cut through the tension that fell over us. No one spoke, and the silence in those seconds would be the calm before the storm that would wreck my relationship with Grayson.

"You're alive," Aiden said, his words a mixture of shock, and maybe, just maybe, a little relief.

But I didn't have a moment to process them. Because those words snapped that tension and suddenly, everyone was moving.

Aiden towards me. Black River's guards towards Aiden. And when Aiden ripped from the guards, a hand gripped my arm, and suddenly I was being pushed backwards, behind Seth and Asher. When had he gotten here?

"Let me go," Aiden snapped, shoving another guard before turning around to come face to face with Grayson. He placed a hand on his chest, shoving, but Grayson didn't move an inch.

"She's my mate," Aiden growled lowly. "I have every right to -."

Aiden didn't get to finish his sentence before Grayson reached out, grabbing ahold of Aiden's shirt.

Grayson stepped forward, his body shaking vigorously as he faced off with Aiden. He looked murderous. His eyes pitch black, fist curled into Aiden's collar who looked angry, but not nearly as angry as Grayson.

I panicked, torn between putting myself in the middle or letting the two have it out. I in no way wanted Grayson to think I was choosing or defending Aiden. I knew Grayson was far stronger than Aiden was or ever had been. Not only did Grayson have three inches of height on Aiden, but he also had much more experience and physical strength. He could break Aiden's neck in one quick motion, showing no mercy, and by the look on Aiden's face, he knew that too.

This Grayson before me was the one behind the rumors, behind the name, and behind the power I had always heard of. This was the man people feared.

My eyes danced between Aiden and Grayson, my two mates. My two mates. Both in which I felt a bond with. It shouldn't be possible. Everything I had read, heard, about second mates all came after a rejection or death of one's former mate. His rejection should have taken away the mate bond, therefore allowing me to feel it with Grayson and Grayson only.

However, everything stopped when my eyes had caught Aiden's. For a brief, single second in time, everything stopped and the only thing that mattered was him. My world revolved around him again.

That was until Grayson had spoken, and no guilt slammed into me like a hurricane along with everything about our mate bond that didn't compare to Aiden and I's. Grayson was the one I wanted, he was the one that I chose. Aiden had rejected me, and I was positive that the reaction had only come after not seeing him for so long. Because once the fog cleared, once Grayson grounded me, the betrayal had returned, the memories, and a burning furying like nothing I had ever felt before filled my veins.

For the first time in my life, I wanted Aiden dead. And that thought scared me.

But clearly it did nothing but appease Grayson.

"Kristin, tell him."

I blinked, my breath halting in my lungs as I took in Aiden's words. I hated the way my stomach coiled at the sound of my name falling from his lips, and I closed my eyes, reminding myself it was just the bond. The feeling was gone as quick as it came, and when I reopened my eyes, I found Grayson staring at me expectantly, those black orbs dancing with murderous intentions.

I pushed through Seth and Asher, placing a hand on Grayson's arm, but it only seemed to sooth him a little.

"Gray," I whispered. I stepped closer, bringing my hand up and gently cradling his cheek. His eyes closed and he leaned into my touch, taking in a deep breath. Leaning closer, I placed my lips right by his ear. "I'm yours, Gray. It's okay."
