A soft groan escapes Wesley's lips as he slowly opens his eyes and sees his mom sitting in a chair beside him while he lays in a bed.
Her hand is resting on his arm as she is looking down at the book in her lap. A small smile forms on his face as he realizes that everything is back to normal.
He's back to his old life and relief can finally find its home in him once again.
"Well it's nice to see you awake," an unfamiliar voice says causing him to turn to his left and see a woman standing there. "Do you know where you are?"
"Not fully," Wesley breathes out as he tries to sit up but he instantly feels light headed.
The woman rushes over to him as Emery stands up to help him lay back down.
"Not yet, buddy," Emery said causing Wesley to look at her in confusion.
For as long as he can remember, she always called him pumpkin head. Some would say it was because of the red tint in his hair but it was actually because one Halloween he decided to stick his head inside of a pumpkin and it got stuck. They couldn't get it off so they had to sit in the hospital for four hours just for them to get it off in two minutes.
Ever since then, she always called him that. Not buddy.
Never buddy.
He begins to look at her a little closer and sees that she still has her short hair. That her face has her natural glow to it. That she doesn't look completely miserable.
She's still 18.
The door opens causing his attention to turn towards it and reveals his dad standing there with a Gatorade in his hand. He still has blonde hair and a smile so warm that it feels like sunshine.
He's still 18.
"Sorry to interrupt," Niall said as he walks towards him. "I just figured maybe some electrolytes could help."
"That's gonna fix his memory?" Emery said in a joking tone as Niall shrugs his shoulders.
"I don't know but I'm a father now. I gotta find a way to help my son," he joked back at her causing a smile to form on her face as the school nurse looks at them horrified.
"Can anyone tell me what happened?" She asked trying to get to the bottom of this situation.
"Well we were at soccer practice then this kid just kind of appeared in the middle of the field. We think he got hit in the head or something because he called me dad. Then we ran into Emery on the way here and he called her...,"
