I stood at the landing zone, ready to board the landing craft back to the station to talk to Ajay, or as they call her, Lifeline. Anita approached from behind, her expression reflecting confusion about why I was heading back to the station.

Bangalore: "We see each other again, and now you're going away again."

Me: "Only for a day, Anita." I offered her a smile. "Just going to keep a friend of mine company. She's a participant, Ajay."

Bangalore: "You know her?"

I hesitated, feeling the awkwardness of the situation. I didn't want to disclose that Lifeline and I had dated briefly and were currently friends with benefits, but the truth had to come out sooner or later. So, I confessed.

Me: "Yeah, we... We dated for a while."

Bangalore: "I see. I was gone a long time, huh?"

Me: "Way too long."

Bangalore: "Mind if I come with you?"

Me: "Why not?"

I nodded, and both Bangalore and I hopped onto the lander. I settled into the co-pilot seat while Valkyrie took the passenger seat. She observed as Bangalore and I boarded the ship, then drank the last of her coffee and stowed away the mug before swiftly climbing into the pilot's seat.

Valkyrie: "You coming with us, Ani?"

Bangalore: "Yeah, there's a lot to catch up on."

Valkyrie nodded and powered up the ship, strapping herself in for the journey. The engines roared to life as Valkyrie skillfully maneuvered the craft out of the facility. I turned back to Bangalore and offered her a reassuring smile, something which she returned.

As the ship lifted off, I took a moment to appreciate the view of the planet beneath us. The familiar sight of King's Canyon, known from the Apex Games, stretched out, reminding me of the challenges and adventures that awaited us.

The hum of the engines filled the cabin as Valkyrie expertly guided the ship through the atmosphere, heading towards the station orbiting above. Bangalore and I engaged in a conversation, catching up on the time we spent apart.

Bangalore: "So, what's the deal with you and Lifeline now?"

Me: "We're just friends, 'catching up' occasionally. No strings attached."

Bangalore nodded, seemingly satisfied with the answer.

Valkyrie: "Not weirded out that your boyfriend hooks up with someone else?"

Bangalore: "Not the first time I've shared him with someone."

Me: "I remember that; it was in Illias before we got shipped off. What's the name of that girl?"

Bangalore: "Des or something. Can't remember much, but that was quite the night."

Valkyrie: "I didn't take you for a fun lover. What changed?"

Me: "We got shipped off to war."

I answered her simply, with Bangalore nodding in agreement.

Bangalore: "I take my duties seriously, and it got more serious when I finally went out to fight."

As the dropship smoothly sailed out of the atmosphere, the trio settled into a more comfortable atmosphere. The hum of the engines provided a constant background noise. the ship hummed steadily as we approached the station, the familiar metallic structure coming into view. Bangalore and I exchanged a glance while Valkyrie and I expertly guided the ship into the docking bay, and the engines powered down as we settled back on the station.
