Taking off my helmet I began hyperventilating as I entered the ship, the wounded and dying lay on stretchers, medical bays were so full that some were were being treated on the corridors, after so much fighting the IMC called it quits and had a full evac of gridiron, some ships deserted and fled already but it took far more before we had to leave. The planet was no longer my concern; a heavy weight pressed on my heart as I walked through the halls and entered the control room.
Me: "Out of the way." I pushed past the soldiers, my steps echoing in the somber atmosphere. Approaching the console, I feared the worst. Each key press felt like a burden as the names of the dead and missing scrolled on the screen, and then... my heart dropped. A haunting silence settled in the room, a painful reality that I couldn't escape.

Me: "I'm sorry the rings arrived so late..." I stood alone in the quiet expanse of the cemetery of heroes, surrounded by a sea of solemn gravestones. On the panel of one, the words etched in cold stone read, "Anita Williams." Holding a small box in my hands, I felt the weight of sorrow heavy on my chest. Opening the box revealed two simple bronze rings.
"I was going to give them to you sooner, but then we got called to Gridiron," I whispered, my voice barely audible against the silence of the cemetery. "I thought I should give them to you as a celebration trophy when the war ends... I should've given them to you then and there. At least I would've had the chance to slip it onto your finger."
I lowered myself to the ground, sitting in front of the grave, placing one of the rings on the cold, hard surface—a token for the woman who never got the chance to wear the ring she rightfully owned.
"Ani... I've said it a million times by now, and it always seemed to annoy you, but... I love you." I kissed my hand and tenderly touched her tombstone. "Maybe when we see each other, wherever we end up, let's get married there instead." A hollow chuckle escaped my lips as tears welled up in my eyes. "Who am I kidding... We should've left when we had the chance." The weight of regret settled around me like a shroud as I sat alone with my grief

Me: "And at that I thought I lost you." I finished recounting what happened after gridiron, I went on to tell them how Lifeline and I met, and dated for a short time.
Bangalore: "You still have feelings for this idiot?" She looked at lifeline raising an eyebrow, Quickly Lifeline tried denying it.
Lifeline: "N-no I'm just, a bit" she stammered to answer but she failed to find any words.
Bangalore: "Yeah you do, this isn't the first time I've had to share him with someone else." she stood up and stretched.
Lifeline was taken aback and visibly confused, not quite understanding what Bangalore meant by "sharing." She exchanged a perplexed glance with me, seeking some clarification.
Bangalore caught the confusion on Lifeline's face, and her expression softened. She walked back to the couch and sat down, realizing she might have dropped a bombshell without proper context.
Bangalore: "Back in Illias, Y/N and I were in a polyamorous relationship with another girl, Des. It's not something we kept under wraps. We had our moments."
Lifeline's eyes widened in realization, the confusion slowly replaced by understanding.
Lifeline: "Oh, I see. I guess there's a lot about Y/N that I didn't know."
Bangalore: "Well, he's not one to flaunt his personal life. But when he does, it's memorable."
Lifeline's revelation caught Bangalore and me off guard.
Me: "What do you mean, you're going to share?"
Bangalore: "Well, it's clear that I'm not the only one who has eyes on the prize. So I'm okay with it, as long as I have my freedom to flirt as much as you do."
Me: "Well, which girl's your type?"
Bangalore: "Assholes," she stated.
Me: "So, basically me." I chuckled.
Bangalore and Lifeline: "You're goddamn right."
Lifeline: "Wait a minute, do I get a say in this?"
Bangalore: "Alright, then what's your say?"
Lifeline: "Yes..."
I burst out laughing, while Bangalore pinches the bridge of her nose.
Bangalore: "Alright, alright."
Me: "Well, Ani, you have your work cut out for you this time. You'll be babysitting two idiots." I chuckled, looking at Lifeline, who joined in the laughter.
Me: "Guess it's a team effort now." I smirked.
Lifeline: "I'm officially part of this circus, huh?"
Bangalore: "Circus is an understatement."
We all shared a laugh, the tension of the past moments dissipating. It was a strange reunion for me and Anita, but in that strangeness, there was an odd comfort.
Me: "Well the pizza's here"
Bangalore: "Great now we can eat."
Lifeline: "Finally~!" .
