I could hear the faint sound of voices somewhere in the near distance, and they sounded just like my parents'. They were speaking too softly for me to make out exactly what they were saying, and that irritated me quite a bit.
My eyes were still very much closed, but I was more than aware of what was going on around me; not to mention that I was also very aware of every single ounce of pain inside my body. My wrist was hurting more than the rest of my body was, but that still didn't matter. I was still in a great amount of pain regardless of my wrist. Why in the hell did I have to go back to base?
With every ounce of strength that I could possibly muster, I opened my eyes. Once I regained my vision I began looking around at my surroundings. I was in my bedroom back at home, and both of my parents were seated at the foot of my bed. They were too caught up in their own conversation to notice that I had actually woken up. I decided not to interrupt them, and instead I looked around the room in hopes of finding a bottle of pain medication; I could not stand this pain any longer.
Soon enough my eyes came across a bottle sitting on my computer desk, completely out of reach. I frowned and accidentally let out a small whine. My parents' heads shot to me instantly, and each one of them got up to come sit beside me on my bed.
"You're awake," my mom smiled. "How are you feeling?"
I frowned again. "I want to die. Everything hurts."
My dad reached over and grabbed my bottle of pills from the desk before holding them out in front of me. I reached out my hand to grab them only to stop when I noticed the galaxy printed cast encasing my injured wrist. I couldn't help but smile. It was so pretty.
"It's so pretty," I cooed, patting the cast as if it were some sort of animal.
"Um, Kay," my dad cleared his throat.
I looked away from the cast and over at him. "What, dad?"
"Take two of these. They're from Ratchet," he told me, pushing the bottle further towards me.
I took it from his hands and took two of the pills like he said. I didn't even bother to worry about the fact that I didn't have any water to wash them down with. This pain was only getting worse.
"So, what's the verdict?" I asked the two of them.
"You have a broken wrist which should be healed in about two weeks. You can thank your nonhuman side for that," my mom informed me.
I sighed in relief. I always knew being half Cybertronian had its perks.
"Please tell me you didn't hurt Ethan, dad. I tackled him first, so he was just trying to get me back."
"No, unfortunately. Your mother prevented me from doing so," he grumbled.
"It wasn't necessary. He's a sixteen year old boy and you're a really, really, really old Autobot. Leave the poor children alone," my mom scolded him.
"If children knew how to keep their hands off of my daughter I would gladly leave them alone," he countered.
"Wow, you two are something else. But seriously, he's family. Calm down a little," I laughed. These pills were starting to work much faster than I anticipated, and I was more than happy about it.
"Whatever you want," he responded. Someone was not a happy camper.
I shook my head at him, and my eyes instantly flashed to the window. It was dark outside. There wasn't a single bit of light in the sky except from what little bit of stars there were. How long have I been asleep?
"How long have I been asleep?"
"A day at most; Ratchet over drugged you. You missed school today," my mom told me.
I didn't even care about the missing school detail. Only one thought came to mind and it was about Nathan. I was supposed to go to dinner at his house tonight!
"Nathan!" I exclaimed without so much as thinking.
"You're little friend has been duly informed about your situation," my dad told me.
"Huh?" I was confused.
"He kept calling your phone, so I answered it. He seemed a bit worried over the fact that you missed school and weren't answering his calls, but I told him everything," my mom informed me.
"I was supposed to go eat dinner at his house tonight," I frowned. Mom chuckled and my dad just grunted.
"We know, but I told him that you would be available to attend tomorrow," mom squealed. It was still pretty strange how oddly happy she was about all of this. Maybe I should just send her to the dinner herself.
"Thank you for your assistance, mom."
"You better thank me. It took me like two hours to talk your idiot father into letting you go," she scoffed.
I looked over at my dad. He was just shaking his head at her.
"Well, thank you for deciding to let me live my life, dad," I teased.
He sent me a smile, but I was almost positive it was insincere.
"Now," my mom said as she stood up. "We're going to let you rest." She grabbed my dad's hand and pulled him up from his chair.
"Thanks. I'll see you two tomorrow."
"Oh, by the way. We aren't making you go to school tomorrow, so enjoy that while it lasts," my dad told me.
I nodded and gave him a thumbs up before the two of them exited the room, turning the light off in the process. I caught sight of my phone on my bedside table and picked it up so I could send a text to Nate. He needed to know that I was okay.
Me: Hey. I'm just texting to let you know that I'm perfectly fine, and that I will definitely see you tomorrow for dinner. I'm not going to school though, so you're on your own. Lastly, are you coming to pick me up or do I need to drive myself? Goodnight, Nate.
I was barely even given a minute before my phone beeped again. I smiled and unlocked it to read what Nate sent me.
Nate: Thank God you texted me! I've been so worried about you, but I'm so glad you're okay, babe. And I'll miss you at school tomorrow, but I'll manage. I'll pick you up at about 6:30 tomorrow. Goodnight, beautiful.
I smiled and locked my phone before placing it back on the bedside table. I couldn't help but be excited about tomorrow as I drifted off to sleep.
