Waiting was rather annoying, especially when it came to waiting on food, but I had no other choice. I left my phone at home when we took my mom to the hospital, so I wasn't able to call Nate until we got home. He was coming, but he also needed to get ready, something of which was taking him half an hour. It was sad that a boy was taking longer than me to get ready though. All I had on was my dad's Nike hoodie he gave me at the hospital, a pair of leggings, and my moccasins. My hair was up in a messy bun as well. I looked like trash, but I was only going to eat and then coming back home. Plus, Nathan did not care about what I looked like or what I dressed in, no matter how many times my mom tried to tell me he did. He just wasn't that kind of guy and I think I liked him even more because of that particular trait.

At the moment I was laying on the couch with my feet propped up on my dad's lap. The two of us were just watching TV while my mom was running around the house doing Primus knows what. It was still so strange just how well she was feeling after everything that has happened today, but I thought better than to question it. I was just glad that she was okay. Never in my life did I ever want to have to deal with something like that. If I ever lost her--or even someone close to me--I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

A loud knock on the door sounded, but before I could get up to answer it my mom was yelling that she had it. I was also pretty sure that she tripped in her haste to the doorway, but that was only because of the thump on the floor and chain of curses that came out of her mouth. I couldn't help but laugh at her, nor could my dad.

"I would love to understand how you fell in love with her," I baited.

He smiled and shrugged. "Some things in this universe just can't be explained, Kay."

Even though Nate and I both liked each other I still couldn't help but be jealous of my parents. In my opinion, nobody in the world loved their significant other as much as my parents loved each other. Maybe I was being biased because they were my parents, but I don't care. A love like theirs was a rare thing. In this generation it was so hard to find someone to love; it was hard to find someone to share your life with, to be absolute best friends with. My parents were lucky enough to have found that, especially to have found that with each other. Whether they were two different species or not, they were absolutely made for each other and it wasn't hard for someone to figure that out. Even when my mom did pass and my dad was just left with me, she still, and always would be, the love of his entire existence.

"Kaelyn!" my mom called. "Nate is here for you." I could almost hear the smirk in her voice.

I stood up and walked over to where she and Nate stood at the front door. A smile came onto my face as I looked at him, and without thinking I wrapped him in a hug. He chuckled and wrapped his arms back around me. Gosh, this boy was the definition of perfection. If I could stay here in his arms all day I would definitely.

"You two are cute. Just don't let Ron catch you like that," she laughed.

I frowned and pulled away at the mention of my dad. Why must he try to ruin everything for me when it came to this boy right here?

"Whatever. We'll be in the truck when you two are ready," I told her before grabbing Nate's wrist and pulling him out the door.

I pulled him over to my dad's alternate mode--which to him was just a regular GMC Topkick--and got in. Minutes passed, yet my parents still had yet to show up. I mean, we had people waiting on us at a restaurant, so this was just plain rude.

"Ugh," I groaned as I plopped back onto the seat. "I wish they would hurry up."

"What do you think they're doing?" Nate laughed.

I pursed my lips. "Either fighting or making out."

The next thing I knew the front door was opening. My mom stalked out rather quickly and my dad was right on her tail. Both had rather annoyed expression on their face, so I must have been right about them having some sort of argument.

"They look angry," Nate stated.

I wasn't given the time to answer before my mom hopped into the passenger's seat.

"What's wrong with you two?" I chuckled as my dad got into...himself, really.

"What's wrong is the fact that your idiot father shattered my phone screen. I'm so annoyed," she grumbled as he pulled out of the driveway.

"I dropped it. How was I supposed to know the screen was going to shatter once it hit the floor?" he countered.

She huffed. "I don't know. Maybe because the screen is glass and glass is fragile. You'd think you of all people would know what fragile is."

I rolled my eyes at her while Nathan quietly snickered. She was kind of making a big deal out of nothing. I mean, if she made enough money to buy a brand new car without a down payment, then I was positive she made enough money to replace something as simple as a cell phone. Plus, I was almost positive my dad would replace it for her anyway. It was a really good thing the Autobots started getting paid for their work...well, my dad and Bumblebee did anyway.

"You're obnoxious, Lea. You're making a big deal over something that can easily be replaced," my dad grumbled. At least someone agreed with me.

"All of my pictures were on there, Ron! You don't understand how many bad pictures of Kaelyn I have on here. They were my blackmail piece for when I wanted her to do illegal stuff for me, but now they're gone. Thanks a lot," she babbled.

I blinked. She was not 39 years old. I absolutely refused to believe it.

"Oh my God," my dad muttered. "Give me your phone, Lea."

She made a face, but complied anyway. I felt a warm breeze and the next thing I knew my mom was yelling again. He just threw her phone out the window.

"What the hell?" she exclaimed.

"Sit down and shut up. I will replace your stupid little phone," he told her.

She frowned and sat back in her seat, but it was almost as if something clicked in her mind. She turned around immediately and looked at Nathan.

"I am so sorry that you had to witness that," she apologized.

He chuckled. "No worries. It was actually pretty funny."

She glanced at my dad and leaned back towards Nathan.

"If it makes you feel better about the situation, I'm starting to like you way more than him. How come you didn't exist when I was seventeen?" she whispered.

I knew she was just joking about it, and so did Nathan, but it really just pissed my dad off. My mom squealed as her seat jerked forward and I blinked in surprise.

"This truck is a lot cooler than I thought," Nathan chimed. Even from here I could see the smug look on my dad's face.

"Oh gosh."

"What's wrong with having an opinion, Kaelyn?" he remarked.

I glared at him. "Shut up and drive."

Hopefully this night wouldn't turn into a complete disaster.
