The episode begins deep in the middle of a large forest during the afternoon, where the Plantars and two humans have chosen to stop for a little break before continuing their journey to Newtopia. Currently Sprig is setting up the group tent, Anne is laying a blanket over a stump while Polly watches, and (Y/N) is returning with some fire wood.
(Y/N): Hey, Hop Pop! I'm back with the fire wood you wanted!
Hop Pop: (calls out) Is it dry like I asked you to get?
(Y/N): (nods) Yes!
Hop Pop: (calls out) That's great! Bring it over now, before the fire dies down and the food gets cold!
(Y/N) starts to walk quickly over to Hop Pop's location, which is currently by a large bot surrounded by small rocks and has a fire below it. Once arriving, (Y/N) quickly tosses the sticks into the fire, making it rise slightly.
Hop Pop: Thanks for helping out with the cooking, (Y/N). You go on and take a rest, I'll handle the food from here.
(Y/N) gives Hop Pop a nod before going to sit beside Bessie, who is currently munching on some large grass blades. A few minutes later, and Hop Pop hides the meal under a metal tray before taking it to the blanket stump, and gesturing for (Y/N) to join the others.
Hop Pop: Okay, dinner's ready. (the four kids sit on a tree log)
Anne: Whoo-hoo!
Polly: Yeah!
Sprig: I'm starving!
(Y/N): Wonder what's on the menu?
Hop Pop: Now hold onto your butts. (takes the lid off, revealing... a lone stick) Bam! Stick surprise! (Anne, Polly, and Sprig sigh)
Sprig: (complains) Hop Pop, this isn't food.
(Y/N): Tell that to bark beetles, they love this stuff.
Hop Pop: (teases) But I didn't tell you what the surprise is... (the three then gasp) All right, there is no surprise. (the three now groan) Sorry, kids. This journey's been longer than expected, and we're out of food.
(Y/N): Well, I still have a small stash of mushrooms and berries from when I first arrived here, but at this point they've probably gone mouldy and rotten, so they're no use.
Hop Pop: And since we're in unfamiliar territory with unrecognisable plants...
(Y/N): (finishes the sentence) We have zero clue on what's edible or not.
Hop Pop: Correct, (Y/N).
Polly: (shifts her eyes) No food, eh? (whispers to herself) That's what you plebes think.
Polly then sneakily pulls a cookie out from inside her bow and takes a bite out of it, but then she notices that (Y/N) saw that, so she pulls a second cookie out and offers it to him.
Polly: (waves the cookie around) If you say nothing, this cookie is yours.
(Y/N): How did you even hide those in that- (shakes his head) You know what? I'm not gonna question it. You got yourself a deal, young pollywog. (takes the cookie and happily eats it)
Anne: (groans and panics) This is all my fault. I dragged you guys out here to figure out how to get both me and (Y/N) home, and now we're all gonna starve to death. (curls into her legs)
(Y/N): (pats Anne's shoulders) Anne, you shouldn't focus so much on the negative outcomes so much. Sure, we may not have any food, but we've gone through much worse as one massive group. Starvation is just another hurdle in life we have to conquer.
