Inside Gaza's Nuseirat refugee camp was the home of the Palestinian grandfather Khaled Nabhan—a refugee in his own country. His grandkids lived with him, 3-year-old Reem and 5-year-old Tariq, because their father was working abroad. Nabhan likes to spoil them, especially his youngest granddaughter, the beautiful Reem who stole hearts with her smile. She was so attached to her grandpa. Reem's two bunches, her favorite hairstyle, bobbed when she ran towards her grandpa excitedly or span around with her puffy dress.
Her favorite game was grabbing her grandpa's beard. When she did, he would grab her braid. "I'll let go if you let go," she said, laughing.
"No, I'll let go if you let go," he tells her, and they keep going until one of them gives up and lets go first. Most children in the Middle East have played this little game before with their parents.
