2009

Chris Cardenas and a 14 year old Abraham are driving through a city in New Mexico.

Abraham: Heard a lot of things about this place. Chris: Yeah like what? Abraham: Shootings, killings, people disappearing off the face of the earth. Huge epidemic. Chris: Now Where'd you hear that?

They pass a street.

Abraham: Look, that's where a guy was shot and killed, right in the middle of the road about two months ago. Chris: Gees. You've gotta stop being around Cohen for so long. Abraham: I don't think so. Chris: Poor Lindey, she's probably heard a bunch of traumatic shit by now. Abraham: She's awesome. Chris: No, don't tell me you like Lindey. Abraham: Hey, I never said that, don't be telling John that. Chris: You do. Ha, don't worry little man, your secret is safe with me.

They pass by an advertisement sign for a local fast food place.

Chris: Hey, you hungry? Abraham: Uh, yeah. Chris: Good, cause I was too.

Chris drives to the fast food place and they both enter. Abraham looks around.

Abraham: Not to shabby of a place.

They order and sit at a table.

Abraham: So what are we doing here? Are we taking down the cartel here? Chris: Not again, Abraham. Look I get it. Your parents were heroes and you want to be just like them, but you're barely a kid. How old are you, 14? You're still young. Relax.

Their food arrives and they start eating it when Abraham asks about his parents.

Abraham: How did it happen? How did they disappear?

Chris looks at him.

Chris: I wish I could tell you... I'm wondering the same thing. We all are. Abraham: That's what everyone keeps saying. Chris: Look, if we knew what happened to them, we would've found them but-- Abraham: They're dead. Chris: Hey, I didn't say that. Abraham: Yeah....

The owner goes up to their table.

Owner: Hello, is everything to your liking? Chris: Yes, the food is actually pretty good. I don't think I ever remember having chicken this good.

Abraham stares at the owner.

Owner: Well I'm happy to hear that. We strive to do our best to keep our customers satisfied. Chris: That's good to hear.

The owner looks at Abraham

Owner: And what about you young man?

Abraham catches himself staring and moves his head

Abraham: Oh yeah, the food is really good.

Chris: Thank you for the food, me and my son were actually just about to leave. Owner: Oh yes of course. Thank you for visiting and we hope to see you again.

The owner leaves their table. Abraham and Chris get up and start walking towards the exit.

Chris: Wow, I like that guy, he's really nice. Abraham: ....There is something off about that guy.
