"Captain!"

Usopp, who had his back to you, visibly tensed from the scream, and you frowned at the way he adjusted the sleeves on his forearms before looking at you with a plastered smile.

"Oh, hey, guys!"

"Hey!" - Luffy greeted, raising his hand.

Usopp stared at him silently for a few seconds before his eyes popped out of their sockets and his chin fell to the ground "Are you alive?!"

"Alive? Yes, I just woke up."

"Most people don't wake up after falling on their head from a cliff." The blacksmith drawled, glancing at the captain. He stood next to the navigator with his hands behind his head.

"That guy was asleep the whole time." Pepper confirmed, Carrot nearly jumped in excitement.

"Anyway, Captain, we heard everything!"

"Let's hurry up and tell everyone about the pirates!" Onion agreed, all furious.

"Tell everyone?" Usopp repeated weakly and startled, before letting out a laugh that was too loud and too bright to be sincere. "I'm obviously lying, as usual! This damned butler made me angry, and I decided to declare that he was a pirate!"

You watched him as the boys took it in stride, even though they were disappointed, before pinning the poor coward under your gaze as the trio walked away. Mick put his hand on the liar's shoulder and, with a fake smile, made him shake at the knees.

"Explain yourself."

"Don't move." You cursed, grabbing Usopp's wrist so you could get a good look at the bullet wound that grazed his forearm as the sniper writhed.

"But-"

"You'll want me to hit you here? If you don't, let me make sure there's no shrapnel here."

Frozen in place, Usopp managed to muffle his whines as you wrapped his forearm in a bandage, "Okay, big baby, I'm done."

"Why did you tell them that?" Luffy wondered, standing next to you as you stood up and wiped the dust off your knees.

"Because I'm a liar," Usopp admitted, serious and miserable, without his previous bravado. "They would never have believed me from the beginning. I was too optimistic."

"Despite this, the truth is the truth." - noticed
Zoro stoically crosses his arms while Luffy
studied the other boy with a calmness that belied his usual energetic antics.

"The pirates are really going to come, aren't they?
is it?" - Nami said muffledly.

"Yeah. They'll definitely show up." Usopp confirmed, he clenched his fists causing his knuckles to turn white in his lap. "But everyone thinks it's a lie. They think that tomorrow will be another normal, peaceful day... Here is why I will stop the pirates on the beach tomorrow and make sure it remains a lie! It's the only logical thing a liar like me can do! Even if I get shot in the arm, even if I get chased away with brooms, this is my village! I love this village! I want to protect everyone!"

"You're a good guy." Zoro remarked with a smirk, placing one hand on the hilt of his white katana. "We push away our minions and go into battle alone."

"That's why we don't let you go alone." Mick stated, smiling too sharply to be at all friendly.

"Just so you know, I-... We have access to all the pirate treasure!" Nami said with a smile, giving her a thumbs up. You and she looked at each other and giggled.
