Lyra's POV
Maybe telling the movers that I would be fine to move the rest of my boxes up by myself was a bad idea. This was my only thought as my gaze slowly traced up the stairs that lead to the upper floors of my flat.
Moving to the city had been a dream of mine since I was about 12, when I realised I wanted to live nowhere near my parents, ever. I spent pretty much all of my childhood in the small village about an hour and a half away from the nearest town. It was nice when I was 5 but as I grew up it became more and more boring and the fact that everyone knows everything about everyone started to annoy me.
I moved out as soon as I was 18, to the nearby town. I got a job as a waitress in the local bar and I was doing some commissioned paintings at the same time as a little side hustle. From both of those things I had finally saved up enough money to by myself a flat in the city.
My parents weren't exactly thrilled that I was moving far away but I couldn't be happier. Not having to spend my time trying to impress them so that they will finally pay attention to me and not my golden child brother is a huge weight off of my shoulders. Anyway, enough about my family problems and back to the problem at hand.
How the fuck am I going to get all these boxes up to the second floor and into my flat. By myself.
Deciding it was about time to stop thinking and start doing I pick up the first box and started making my way up the stairs. I thanked my judgement for picking a flat that was only on the second floor because there was no way that I could have carried these boxes all the way to the higher floors of the building.
I finally got to my floor, almost dropping the box I was carrying but I managed to catch myself and place it as gently as I could on the floor in front of my door. One down, ten to go.
