Ring, ring!

"Hello?"

"Hey, Maribel! I'm outside. Come down when you're ready." I say into the phone.

"Alright, be right down."

After about 5 minutes of waiting, Maribel comes down from her apartment. She walks around to the passenger side of my car, puts her luggage in the backseat, then hops in the front with me.

"Man, this girls' trip is going to be awesome!" She exclaims after fastening her seat belt.

"Yeah, I'm so excited. I've always wanted to do this!" I shriek.

"Wait- you've never been on one before?" She asks surprised.

"Nah. My parents were business people. So, I was kind of raised to care more about using time to streamline revenue. The only 'friends' I have are simply a part of networking...so..." I say, giving a very long explanation of why I don't have friends or a social life.

She stares blankly at me, before awkwardly mumbling, "Ah- Well, that explains a lot of things...Mind if I be a DJ?", changing the subject.

"Sure." I say, passing her the auxiliary cord.

"Sweet!" she says as she grabs the aux and plugs it into her phone. "Hmmmm...oh, this song's a good one."

She turns up the volume on her phone. The song starts off with a soothing guitar picking pattern on the strings. Feels like the rhythm is plucking my heartstrings. But, then the singing starts. The artist had a deep, sultry, and manly voice. I felt his voice infiltrate every fiber of my being and send chills running down my spine like the waters of the Niagara. Passion surged through me, causing my abdomen to burn. That voice...that familiar euphoric feeling...takes me back to that night.

"Maribel, who's that?" I inquire curiously.

"Oh, Sky Lerrington. He's a really popular Yoobtoo artist. Amazing, right?"

"Yeah, his voice is like butter."

"Careful, Mrs. Soon-to-be-wifed-up." She chuckles. "He's really hot, too. Look at this gorgeous god!" She reaches the phone over to show me what he looks like. But, I don't look.

"Ah, I can't right now."

"Haha, I guess you're right. I shouldn't distract you while you drive. I know! I'll send it to your phone."

"Sweet! I'll check it later. You know who's also a really good artist?" I inquire.

"Your mom?" she jokes.

"Oh, god, no." I say, chuckling. "I really like Allison Swifty."

"Is she that blonde girl who plays guitar and sings those heehaw songs about heartbreak and men? Wait- don't tell me you're one of those Swiftlings...." she says with a disappointed look.

"Hey! Allison is in her pop girl era now. And yes, I'm a Swiftling. I highly recommend you just give her music a try. The lady's practically the music industry at this point." I say, proudly.

"Well, I do like ONE of her songs. It's the one where she was talking about high school and meeting her bestfriend Abby, I think."

"Ooohh, I love that one! It's called '13'." I always geek out when talking about Allison Swifty.

"Yeah, that's the one!"

In the moment, we both start serenading each other with the lyrics, both having the time of our lives.
