Dolores walked out of Casita and snuck around; as soon as she was near the back she heard what sounded like crying.
"Isa's crying..." Dolores whispered to herself as she sped up a little and finally got to where the crying was coming from.
Dolores peaked around the corner to see... Isabela sitting on the grass with her legs pulled to her chest while she was resting her head on top of her knees.
"Isa... hey..." Dolores walked closer to Isabela and sat next to her making Isabela look up at her.
Isabela immediately turned her head away and wiped her tears then turned back to look her cousin.
"Hey prima, what are you doing out here?" Isabela asks hoping to change the subject.. it didn't work.
Dolores looked away from Isabela for a minute "I could ask you the same thing." Dolores responded while fixing her headband.
Dolores looked back at Isabela before responding again "I came out here to look for you."
Isabela said a silent "oh"
"Isa, why are you out here?" Dolores asks gently with her normal whisper-y tone while putting her hand on Isabela's shoulder.
"I just needed fresh air" Isabela said with her voice cracking.
"Oh prima..." Dolores looked at her cousin sadly.
"Tell me what's on your mind." Dolores said after a few minutes of silence.
"Doli I- i can't" Isabela whispered while trying her best to keep her composure.
"It will help, don't keep your feelings inside, that's not healthy Isa." Dolores reassured Isabela.
Isabela nodded then spoke "I can't do this Dolores" Isabela said with her eyes watering.
"What?" Dolores asked but she thinks she already knows the answer but she needed to be sure.
"I- i can't marry him" Isabela finally said after 2 minutes "I can't I mean we just started dating two weeks ago and Abuela already wants me to marry him!" Isabela started fully crying but continued saying her true feelings.
"I don't want to marry him but I feel like nuestra familia will be disappointed... especially Abuela"
"I don't want to be seen as señorita perfecta or princesa perfecta anymore! I can't do this Dolores!" Isabela finishes speaking and just rests her head atop her knees and pulls her legs further to her chest.
"Isa, I want you to know that no matter what we'll love you okay? No matter what happens we're a family and we love you" Dolores pulls Isabela into a hug while Isabela returns the hug.
Dolores pulls out a little handkerchief and wipes Isabela's tears with it then she hands Isabela some little purple earrings.
"This was supposed to be for your birthday but you deserve it now."
Isabela takes the earrings from Dolores and puts them in.
"I have something for you too" Isabela pulls a red choker necklace with a golden heart.
"This was supposed to be for your birthday too." Isabela helps Dolores put the necklace on and then they both get up and give each other a quick hug before walking back to the front of Casita.
"Ready?" Dolores asks holding Isabela's hand in a reassuring grip.
"Ready" Isabela responds with a big real smile and they then reenter the Casita to return to the party.
