About two years had passed since the events at the Beggar Sect. In truth, it was hard to say those events had fully concluded. To join the Beggar Sect, one simply had to identify as a member. The three young adults now had a new home there.
Ilovezyou, initially acquired as an ally, had become a brother-in-arms. Pangu, lacking real combat skills, had learned many basic techniques from his new impromptu weapons master. During his morning meditation, he listened to ZhouFan flood him with knowledge about this world. Zhou's appearances were becoming increasingly rare.
A gentle voice echoed in his mind: "We are aware of an issue where Taoists are experiencing abnormal combat situations due to system issues. We are working on a maintenance update to fix this and ask for your patience while we address it. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience." This message came with an apology gift of 400 fateum.
Since the last purchase at the Fatevillion, the system had seen little use. Still loaded with information about the world and data on Pangu as the main character, Dreko in the menagerie, and Nora now on the player list since she absorbed the breakthrough pill, Pangu wondered why this message had appeared.
Spring had just started. Today was the entrance test for the High Gods Sect. "No need to wait for the quest giver, I know what I have to do..." he thought, before gathering his friends to get ready to leave. Ilovezyou didn't want to come along. His place was here, and his level was too high for a local small sect. For Pangu, the entrance test to a Sect was an essential step. He was bored and wanted to access the library, to learn some secret techniques.
-----------------After an uneventful journey to the outer circles of the city, near the mountain overlooking the vast capital, they found a wide staircase of cut white stone leading up to the summit. It stood there as their first challenge. According to the system, the mountain was about 5000 meters (16,000 feet) high, which meant a six-hour climb for a mortal.
It could be less if they took the stairs. The three of them had to climb. Pangu, being the weakest, once again relied on his friends. Dreko transformed into a rainbow lion, carrying his friends. When he got tired, they would all step onto Nora's shadow platform, which would take the next turn until Dreko could take over again. Along the way, they encountered several students sitting against rocks, exhausted and gathered in small groups. Their ascent was smooth, with Nora and Dreko alternating more for a change of pace than out of fatigue.
As the direction of the staircase shifted, it led to a small plaza with a fountain, located on a relatively flat area. Under a row of blooming cherry trees, a strict-looking woman writing on a parchment awaited them. It had been a while since they had seen anyone. As the group approached her, she spoke first. "Hey, youngsters! Saw you coming up, nice technique! Looks like there's room for one more, mind if I join you for the final stretch to the top?" Intrigued by this stranger who didn't seem tired from the climb, they agreed.
Named Klife, she was in charge of maintaining the sect, serving as the head of the maids. She employed numerous techniques, all oriented towards accomplishing her tasks. She seemed odd at first, but she assured them that the sect housed many interesting personalities, each more intriguing than the last. She wasn't the oddest of them. So, this was the end of their stair climbing. Was this where Nex had spent part of his life before becoming the powerful and mysterious Taoist he is today? Barely passing the sect's gate, Klife waved goodbye with a sly smile and then transformed into a puddle. The puddle expanded and turned into a dozen brooms that began the long task of gathering scattered cherry blossom petals in the sect's outer courtyard.
