Chapter 8

Several weeks pass. In those days, Thomas and Ellie remain at the hospital with Kara. "Thomas?" Ellie whispers one day.

"Yes?"

"I think...I think...."

"You think what?"

"Uh, either I just peed myself or..." She suddenly grasps onto her bulging stomach. "Ouch!" She cries out.

Thomas pales, "Oh! Give me a minute! I'll text Julia!" He pulls his phone out and sends Julia a quick text. Julia bursts into the room seconds later.

"Ellie," she says calmly, "come with me."

"O..okay... " She accompanies Julia into her normal room.

"Lay down," Julia commands.

Ellie lays down on an examination table. She lets out a pained cry. "Julia!" she shrieks, "It hurts!"

"I know, love, just try and relax. It'll be over in a couple of minutes.

Meanwhile back in Kara's room, Thomas is calling Matt. "Hey, man," he says, "you need to get to the hospital."

"What?" Matt asks, "Why? Is Kara..."

"Kara's fine. It's Ellie. Her water broke."

"Oh, okay. I'm on my way!"

Thomas hangs up and makes his way to Ellie's delivery room. "Hey," he says once inside the room.

"Thomas!" Ellie yelps, "It hurts!"

"I know, kitten. You're doing great. I called Matt. He's on his way."

"Gah!" There's a brief moment of silence before an infant's cry fills the room. "Julia? What's...Is everything..."

"Everything's fine," Julia softly answers, "She's fine."

"S..Sh..She?"

"Yes, she. It's a girl."

"Oh, is sh..she healthy?"

"Yes, it would appear so."

"Isn't she early?"

"A couple of weeks, but that's all. Trust me, she's healthy. She is a bit small, but that's expected."

"C..could I see her?"

"Yes, of course, love." Julia carefully hands Ellie her baby.

"Oh, she l..looks like Matt."

"Yes, she does. She still has your eyes though."

"It would seem so." The baby starts to fuss. "What's wrong, little one? What do you need?"

"She's probably just getting used to being outside of you."

Ellie is silent for a few minutes. "Thomas?" she eventually asks.

"Yeah?"
"Matt? When is he coming?"

"Oh, um, he's probably here. I'll go check, okay? I'll be right back."

Ellie nods and turns her attention back to the newest addition to the family. "Ellie!" Matt yells as he runs into the room. "Are you okay? The baby! Is it..." He stops when he sees the little one in Ellie's arms. "Oh, it's a girl..."

"I'm sorry. I know you wanted a boy..."

"It's fine, it's my fault anyways. I guess I'm not very good at making boys."

Ellie laughs, "Yes, I guess so. Would you like to hold her?"

"Yeah, of course." Ellie carefully hands him his daughter.
