GO AWAY...PLEASE?﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎
CAMP NIGHTWING WAS just as chaotic as she remembered.Sweaty kids ran around the cemented pathways, making it all too apparent that some weren't wearing deodorant. There was a smell to the camp near the main area. But further out in the trees, where she liked to linger, there was a pleasant smell of pine trees. However, there was a meeting for all the counselors that she had to attend before she could run off to the woods.
Now she was looking for her best friend, Thomas Slater, better known as Tommy. She didn't want to head to the mess hall alone, as sitting through a counselor meeting alone sounded dreadfully boring.
Her hands were tightly gripping her bags (she hadn't checked into her room yet) as she avoided bumping into a group of children playing tag. One that she recognized, Ryan, and figured that speaking to the young boy while she waited couldn't be so bad. "Hey, Ryan," Celia called out, causing the boy to stop. His friends followed, all staring up at the girl as she approached, "Talked to your mom yesterday."
"W-What? Why?" Ryan stammered, a flush coming to his face as his friends started to laugh behind him. He whispered to her, "Did you tell her about the extra cookie I took?"
She couldn't keep her laugh from bubbling out, "I didn't tell her about the cookie." Celia assured, her voice just as low as his. "Have you seen Tommy?"
Ryan had met Tommy a few times because the boy often came over with her. Neither Jennie nor Ryan cared, as they both liked the boy. Jennie always said he was "perfect" and "sweet as can be." Celia couldn't deny such a claim. Tommy was the perfect boy in many parents' eyes, including her own mother.
Ryan shook his head, looking around them to see if the man was anywhere in sight, "Uh... No! Not yet!"
She frowned at his words. Where on Earth was Tommy? "That sucks." Celia ruffled his hair before slowly turning, "See you later kid."
"See ya!" Ryan was quick to jump right back into his game.
In a blink, Celia was left alone in the camp. She huffed, walking further past the crowding kids. Then, she noticed a familiar figure approaching her. She stopped, putting her bags on the floor (she figured she would be stuck in conversation for a while) and put her hands on her hips as he stopped in front of her.
"Long time no see." Nick fucking Goode said, making her frown. The expression seemed permanent on her face lately.
Celia scrunched her nose as she took in the sight of the man. She wished it had been a longer break between interactions. She nodded, "Yeah." She spoke dryly, hoping that if she seemed uninterested, he'd go away.
He either didn't understand her intentions or ignored them. Knowing him, probably the latter.
"Van Halen treating you good?" He questioned, a bright smile on his face.
She blinked at him with a stoic expression, "Yup." She popped the p, turning away from him to mindlessly search for her friend.
Finally, Nick noticed her irritation. He wasn't stupid, he knew why she was upset. "Let's try this again. Pretend yesterday never happened?" He planned, sticking out one of his hands, "I'm Nick."
I know. She thought, a deadpan look on her face. The girl slowly looked at his hand, judging it for a few seconds before she turned up to his eyes. She didn't shake it, simply saying, "Celia."
"Celia?" Nick realized that he wasn't getting a handshake and pulled his limb back, not looking even a hint embarrassed. Celia wondered if it was even possible for him to be, "That's unique." He piped.
Like everything else he had said so far, she took it as an insult, "I didn't pick it." She retorted defensively.
"No, no, I meant—It's a good thing...It's a nice unique." Celia furrowed her eyebrows at his rambling. Why is he so nervous? He doesn't have to talk to me. In fact, he should just, go away. Or maybe I should. I'd just need a distraction.
"Hey, Cece." A familiar voice called out behind her.
Distraction found.
A large grin appeared on Celia's face as she turned around, "Tommy!" Nick furrowed his eyebrows at the sight, watching as her mood brightened as she turned away from him.
The tall man himself stood in front of her, looking good as can be, a welcoming smile on his face. He appeared refreshed by the camp, unlike others (Celia), "How've you been?" He asked. It had only been a week since the two saw each other, but it felt like forever.
"Tired out of my mind!" Celia answered, reaching down to grasp at her bags, "You wanna walk to the counselor meeting together?"
"Sure." Tommy shrugged. Celia didn't say anything to Nick, simply walked away close to Tommy's side. "You find your room yet?"
"Not yet." Celia shook her head, looking amongst the cabins. The counselors were given more room than the campers but still had roommates usually.
Tommy nodded, reaching down to take one of her bags. She let him, "Let's do that first." Once they got far enough from Nick, Tommy leaned down and asked, "Why were you talking to Nick?"
Her friend had a reason to be bewildered by the sight of his friend speaking to the Sunnyvaler. After all, Celia hardly spoke to anyone outside of their friendship, calling herself a loner, but to see her chatting (even if she had appeared uncomfortable which is why he rushed to intervene when he spotted them) with Goode-y two shoes Nick?
Tommy didn't know if he'd see anything crazier all summer.
Celia shrugged, acting casual, "He approached me."
Tommy glanced over his shoulder, finding the boy still watching them. Once he noticed Tommy looking at him though, Nick quickly turned away and started doing something else. "That's weird."
"Tell me about it. How is everyone?" Celia asked as Tommy turned them in the direction of the mess hall. That's where the meeting would be, "Heard you gave the Berman's a ride up here."
"Cindy's good." Celia's face scrunched up slightly at the mention of his girlfriend, the past coming up whenever she was mentioned. She decided to keep her mouth shut as Tommy continued, "Ziggy's...Ziggy."
After finding her room and dropping her bags off, the two made it into the mess hall and after a few more counselors arrived, the meeting was started. It was boring, and Celia found herself barely paying attention. After all, she could just get the summary later from Tommy.
It was only the last thing Kurt said that gained her focus: "It's a full moon tonight!" He shouted, a grin on his face.
Everyone cheered at the statement, and Celia was extremely confused. "What does that mean?" She asks Tommy who is sitting next to her. He had been a counselor before, unlike Celia who was new to being a counselor.
"You'll find out soon." Tommy sent her a grin once he noticed her worried expression, "Don't worry, you'll love it."
