Unlocking the door, Matthew hesitated, hand on the handle. If this was anything like lathe last time Jackson was here, it would be a great night with a bitter aftertaste, but Matthew still couldn't contain his happiness as he recalled Jackson taking his hand and stepping into his car.
They entered the apartment hand in hand, which reminded Matthew of the last time they were in his messy apartment. His vase is still broken from that night, but at least he had cleaned up the fragments.
"Wow, your apartment is messy." Jackson's eyes took in the living room.
There was clothes in the floor, dishes in the sink, and the couch had definitely seen better days. Matthew found himself procrastinating when it came to cleaning his rooms.
Matthew rolled his eyes, "Yeah, and I'm sure yours is much better."
"It is!" Jackson's hand slipped from his as he motioned towards Matthew's dirty kitchen, "I don't know how you live like this!"
Jackson took Matthew's hand again and let out a laugh, "C'mon we're cleaning this up!"
Matthew picked up the TV remote from the counter and wiggled it in front of Jackson's face, "Wouldn't you much rather watch a movie?"
Jackson dramatically turned his head left towards the kitchen and right towards the TV. Despite this, Matthew could tell that even though the dirty dishes bothered him, a movie invitation seemed more appealing than cleaning.
Jackson snatched the remote from his hands and hopped over the couch like a hurdler.
"Only if I get to pick the movie!" Jackson yelled, fixing the pillows.
Laughing, Matthew took a seat on the couch next to Jackson and leaned back.
"So, what are we watching?" Matthew asked.
He expected the cliche for all "Jacksons" of the world. What he didn't expect was to be watching Pride And Prejudice with Jackson's head in his lap and a blanket covering them both.
"I didn't take you for a Pride And Prejudice kind of guy." Matthew popped a pice of popcorn into his mouth.
"The hell thats supposed to mean?" Jackson's head rose slightly, daring him to elaborate.
"Nothing!" Matthew hand rose in defense, "I just assumed that you'd be into Marvel or Star Wars or something."
Matthew grabbed some popcorn which Jackson stole from his hands.
Matthew didn't mind. It was cute, which was a rare term for the ferocity of Jackson.
Leaning towards the screen, Jackson said with a mouth full of popcorn, "What's wrong with liking Pride And Prejudice ?"
Matthew grinned, "First, chew."
With a dramatic swallow that was more sexy than it should have been, Jackson asked again, "What's wrong with liking Pride and Prejudice?"
"Nothing, nothing! It's just you seemed like the type of dude who enjoys action flicks." Matthew smiled.
Annoyingly, like that of a small child, Jackson huffed, "Action flicks."
"Well, is your favorite author Kanye West or Eminem?" Matthew asked.
"No. It's Madonna." Jackson stole more popcorn from Matthew's hands.
It took a second for Matthew's brain to sink the information in. They watched the movie for a full minute before Matthew started uncontrollably laughing.
Jackson rose up until he was eye level with Matthew, "What? What's so funny?"
"Nothing!" Matthew mustered in between fits of giggles.
Jackson grabbed both his shoulders and shook him with fervor, "What the hell is wrong with you?" He looked at him like he was broken.
Matthew's brain couldn't comprehend the stubborn likes of Jackson enjoying the upbeat singing of 80s pop star Madonna. It was utterly ridiculous to him that Jackson would like Madonna that he couldn't control the laughter coming from his mouth.
"It's just," Matthew tried to say, "It's just."
Jackson's eyes narrowed, "Spit it out!"
The words bubbled up for Matthew's brain and tumbled out, "Madonna? You like, you like, Madonna?"
Jackson looked like he was slapped, "What's wrong with Madonna?"
"Nothing, I just," he tried to find words, "You? Madonna?"
Jackson threw a pillow at him.
Matthew tried to take the pillow off but Jackson grabbed the sides and smothered him with it.
"Are you insulting my music taste?" Jackson climbed on top of him and smooshed the pillow on Matthew.
Matthew could barely breathe, but he still managed a weak laugh.
"I bet you listen to Miley Cyrus!" Jackson said as Matthew attempted to flee from the couch.
"Mrph!" Matthew said from under the pillow.
He grabbed the pillow and shoved Jackson off of the couch with all his strength. As Jackson fell, he grabbed hold of Matthew's shirt and pulled him down with him, making Matthew's forearm hit the coffee table in front of the couch and him land on top of Jackson.
Breathless, Matthew muttered, "Ow."
They stared into each other's eyes for a second, tangled in the blanket, unsure what to do.
After a few moments, Jackson, still holding Matthew's shirt, pulled him down and kissed him.
