⠀⠀I tore my lips away from Josh's, abruptly ending our kiss as he stumbled backwards on the seat in surprise.

⠀⠀"I- I saw someone in the window!" I exclaimed in horror.

⠀⠀"You had your eyes open?" Josh questioned with an irritating causality.

⠀⠀ Ignoring his remark, I pointed indignantly towards the living room window. Josh cocked his head to the side, giving me a look that contained both confusion and the slightest bit of a playful era, as if he thought this were a joke.

⠀⠀I glanced back towards the window just to find it once again embraced in darkness. My stomach swirled, threatening to spill the contents of the lovely meal I had just eaten.

⠀⠀"I have to go." I stuttered quickly, grabbing my purse and practically falling out of the car once I managed to clumsily open the door in my haste.

⠀⠀"Chloe, wait!" Josh yelled as I ran up the front sidewalk and towards my front door without looking back to see his stunned yet disappointed face.

⠀⠀The moment I opened the front door, I heard the back door slam shut. The intruder, who ever it had been, was now gone. After carefully locking both doors, I crept around the house, finding nothing out of place. Nothing appeared to be stolen or broken, everything was exactly as it was had been when I left. I cautiously entered my room to find the same ordeal as the rest of the house; nothing was disturbed.

⠀⠀I began to wonder if the whole thing had ever taken place or if I had simply imagined it out of paranoia. Ignoring the uneasy feeling that lingered in my bones, I hurriedly began to get ready for bed.

⠀⠀After brushing my teeth and combing through my long hair, I changed into a baggy T-shirt and booty shorts. Taking a dismissive breath and yet again reassuring myself that nothing was wrong, I crawled beneath my soft duvet.

⠀⠀I slowly set my head down on the plush pillow, anxious for sleep. The moment the outskirts of my head made contact with the fabric of my head, a sharp pain suddenly radiated through my body. Pain sent waves of anguish through my nerves, instinct snapping my head upwards till I was seated on the bed, breathing heavily. A dull throb pounded from the upper edge of my right ear. I held my hand to the area, and winced as the surface of my skin instilled a stinging feeling through my ear.

⠀⠀When I pulled my hand away, it was coated in a thick layer of crimson.

⠀⠀My gaze travelled to the pillow, where light refracted off the tip of a knife which had placed deliberately so that it's sharp peak poked out of the fabric of the pillow, awaiting it's prey. But that was not all— the corner of a small piece of paper also protruded from the pillow, alongside the knife.

⠀⠀Careful not to cast the blade across the skin of my hand, I removed both the knife and the paper from the pillow. My bottom lip trembling nervously, I unfolded the paper and smoothed out the creases from its glossy entity.

⠀⠀I read the note through the tears that now blurred my vision.
