⠀⠀The next day, as I walked through the halls at school, I noticed that Josh was absent. Disappointment distracted my attentiveness to the teacher as we had planned a lunch date today. Between classes I quickly sent him a text; 'Hey, missing you today. Where are you?'

⠀⠀I received no answer.

⠀⠀I was sitting through my second period science class, my mind focused on anything but science, when an unfamiliar voice suddenly came over the announcement system.

⠀⠀"Sorry for the interruption. Could I please have Nia Frazier, Chloe Lukasiak, Kendall Vertes, and Maddie Ziegler to the office?"

⠀⠀I stood up nervously, a sickening feeling in my stomach that whatever we had been called down to the office for involved Paige.

⠀⠀"Oooh Chloe got in trouble!" A boy snickered as I walked past him. I sent him a look that shot daggers before gracefully exiting the room. As I left the classroom, I saw Kendall leaving the room beside mine.

⠀⠀"Do you think they found out what we did?" Kendall whispered anxiously.

⠀⠀"How could they?" I smiled reassuringly although I could not quite reassure myself.

⠀⠀The office was not far, and soon we were seated, waiting for the others to arrive. Nia, her face pale, came down the hallway next and joined Kendall and I outside the office. Maddie came next, her hands twisting together nervously.

⠀⠀The office door opened, and my heart nearly stopped as a police officer, badge and all, ushered us into a room.

⠀⠀There was so much tension in the room that I found it difficult to breathe. The officer sat down behind a desk and the four of us sat down on chairs placed at a vantage pointe in front of the desk.

⠀⠀"I'll try to make this quick so you can return to class." The officer said kindly. "Last night, it was reported to us that Josh Brooks went missing."

⠀⠀I sat there, slack jawed, unmoving. The world seemed to slow down as the walls appeared to close in on me. The officers lips moved, but I didn't hear a thing. Shock ran through my veins in waves. My mouth was slightly parted and my eyes stared forward.

⠀⠀"I understand you girls knew him?" The officer then asked, pulling me from my state of shock. The question was addressed more so to me.

⠀⠀"I, um," I stuttered as scared tears threatened to spill from my eyes. "I was his girlfriend."
