A presence is stirring in the dark. It has no body, no figure, but consists only of darkness. Resistance is futile- it is impossible to deny. After all, how can you fight back, when to do so would result in your own destruction? It contains your dreams, desires and long hidden wishes. As a siren, it promises you the world- yet its oaths are made of treachery and deceit, and hold no more honesty than the assurances it whispers in your ears.
Unaware, you stand no chance. A master of seduction, you are tempted, drawn by the future it proposes. It pulls you closer, and you are spellbound, enchanted by your own desire. And that is it. There is no moment when you are jerked back to reality, the moment you wake up, if you will. You fade. Your soul is devoured by the night, and you are nothing. The luxury of death is stolen from you, and you become nothing. You wander across the stars in endless night, no light to free you from your cage of oblivion, no voice to break the silence that has consumed you.
Eternally alive. Eternally alone.
So many years ago, this beast was alive. Yet it sank into shadow as its energy: its life force was dimished through the relentless passing of the years.
Its reign is a short one- lasting no more than five years before being forced to descend into the depths to conserve enough strength to one day rise again. Yet during those years, life is extinguished. It takes countless victims, numberless bodies. Thousands. A disease is blamed for the drop in population, yet those few who remain speak in hushed whispers of its passing. They are scared, so scared, yet are completely powerless to prevent the rise of the silence.
