I have made many mistakes in my lifetime...but none of them were as bad as that day. That horrible day at Camp Crystal Lake. Where my best friend, and only friend, Jason Voorhees, had drowned. Don't get me wrong, I didn't drown him myself, but I couldn't save him. Then again, I hadn't known Jason for very long. But, how we met is a very long story.
It started with my parents dropping me off at my first summer camp ever. Camp Crystal Lake. I remember being very excited, but also nervous. For I grew up not having any friends, and I was often bullied by older kids because
1) I was adopted.
2) I was scrawny and weak.
3) I was born on a leap year.
4) My middle name is a flower.
Now that might not seem so bad, but because I was bullied so badly for it, I had never been fond of it. But, I never did anything during the summer and I figured that if there were even a slight chance of me ever making a friend, then I would snatch the opportunity. Plus, we only lived about ten or twenty minutes away from the camp at the most. So I was comfortable.
"Alice, are you sure you're going to be okay? Because if not, we won't make you stay here," my mom said in a concerned voice. I nodded.
"I'll be okay, momma," I said, giving her a hug. My dad ruffled my hair.
"Well, look, dragonfly, if you hate it here and want us to come pick you up, we are only a phone call away, okay?" I nodded and gave them both a kiss on the cheek.
"I promise that I'll call if I don't like it," I gave them a reassuring smile.
"Okay, kiddo, we'll see you in a few days!" My parents hug me one last time and get into their car.
"Alice, we love you! Don't be afraid to call!" My mom yelled as the car drove out of view.
"I love you, too!" I shouted back. Once they were gone, I took the time to look around. It was absolutely beautiful. It had a neat mess hall, thirteen cabins, which could hold three campers, and a clear lake. Which was probably why it was called, Camp Crystal Lake. Anyways, now that that part is done, I feel like it's about time I introduce myself.
My name is Alice Rose Woods. Like I said, my middle name is a flower. And it doesn't seem that bad. But, again, I was bullied a lot. So it was like poison to me. I have long, red, wavy hair and blue eyes. And I look twelve, but I'm actually ten. I tugged on my camp shirt which was one size too big. But I didn't mind. And as I was walking to my cabin, I heard someone crying. He was sitting near the lake with his head resting on his knees. I walked up to him and gently tapped his shoulder. He shot his head up and started backing away from me.
"It's okay, I won't hurt you," I said to him. I told him that I didn't mean to scare him and asked if I could join him. He nodded without looking at me, and I sat down.
"My name is Alice, what is your name?" I asked in a calm tone. He looked away, again. And he finally spoke.
"M-my name is, J-Jason, Jason Voorhees," he said very shyly. Jason. I liked it.
"Why are you crying, Jason?" I asked. He sniffles and told me what happened. Apparently, he was made fun of by some of the older kids because his face is deformed. I felt bad for Jason. Because I knew what it felt like to be made fun of.
"I bet your face isn't that bad." I said, trying to cheer him up. He picked his head up but didn't look at me.
"Yeah it is," his voice was shaking, like he was about to start crying again.
"Can I see?" I was very curious. He hesitated. But eventually, he looked at me. His face was a little deformed, but I was right, it wasn't that bad. I smiled. He got a nervous look on his face.
"I was right, it isn't that bad," I smiled a little wider. He looked shocked, and whipped his eyes. His eyes were a clear blue. And he had thin blonde hair. And not a lot of it.
"Um, A-Alice?" He said with a small smile.
"Yes?" I said.
"C-Can we be...um...can we be friends?" His eyes were full of hope. I got really excited. So excited that I hugged him without thinking. He tensed up.
"Does that mean yes?" He asked. I giggled and nodded. He smiled.
We sat there and talked for what seemed like hours. Until someone came up to us. It was a woman. She was wearing an apron, and had short, light-brown curls and blue eyes.
"Jason, what are you doing here? And who is this?" She smiled and turned to me. I smiled back.
"My name is Alice, it's nice to meet you Miss-" I stopped and waited to catch her name.
"Pamela, Pamela Voorhees. I'm Jason's mommy," she said smiling. It made a lot of sense. She and Jason did look a lot alike.
"It's nice to meet you Miss Voorhees!" I said with a smile.
"It's nice to meet you too, Alice," she smiled and pat my head.
"Mommy, Alice is really nice to me! She came up to me because I was sad, and she made me feel better!" I could tell by the way Jason looked and talked to her told me that he idolized her. She smiled and bent down to us.
"Thank you, Alice," she placed her hand on my shoulder. I really liked Miss Voorhees. She was really nice.
"No problem at all! I know what it feels like to be made fun of," I rubbed the back of my head. Jason have me a look of concern. I just gave him a reassuring smile. She stood up and placed her hands on her hips.
"Well, if it happens again, then you two come to me, okay?" We both nodded and stood up.
"Now come along, kids. It's time to eat." We went to the mess hall and sat together. No one else sat at our table, but we didn't care. We had each other. And we looked out for each other.
Eventually, Jason and I were inseparable. That is...until that day.
