LONDON, ENGLAND

Esha Roy sat by the window of her modest London apartment, gazing at the steady drizzle that seemed to mirror her mood. It had been four years since she left India, four years since she left everything she knew behind—including him. The bustling city, usually so full of life and vibrancy, felt subdued under the gray skies, and she found comfort in the rhythmic sound of raindrops tapping against the glass.

Her phone buzzed on the table beside her, jolting her out of her reverie. Esha glanced at the screen, recognizing the number immediately—it was the CIB, her former employer, and the place where her life had taken a dramatic turn. Her heart skipped a beat as she hesitated, knowing that answering the call might unravel the new life she had painstakingly built for herself.

Taking a deep breath, she picked up the phone. "Hello?"

"Esha, it's Priya" said a familiar voice on the other end. Priya had been Esha's closest friend and colleague in the CIB, always supportive, even during the turbulent times with Reyansh.

"Priya, hi" Esha replied, forcing a note of cheerfulness into her voice. "It's been a while."

"It has. How have you been?" Priya's tone was warm, but there was an undercurrent of urgency.

"I'm good, just keeping busy here. How about you?"

"Busy as always. Listen, Esha, there's a reason I'm calling. We need you back in India. There's a cold case that's been reopened, and your expertise is crucial."

Esha's stomach twisted with a mix of excitement and dread. "A cold case? What's it about?"

"It's a murder case that you and Reyansh worked on years ago. New evidence has come to light, and we think you can help crack it. You were always the best at seeing things others couldn't."

The mention of Reyansh's name made Esha's heart pound. Memories flooded back—the late nights at the office, their shared laughter, the way his eyes crinkled when he smiled, and the eventual heartbreak. She had left to escape the pain, but it seemed the past was pulling her back.

"Esha, are you there?" Priya prompted, breaking the silence.

"I'm here," Esha replied, her voice steadier than she felt. "When do you need me to come back?"

"As soon as possible. The team is assembling next week, and we could really use you on this."

Esha looked around her apartment, at the life she had tried so hard to build, and felt a tug at her heart. She had found peace here, or at least she thought she had. But the call of duty, the chance to solve a case that had haunted her, was impossible to resist.

"I'll be there," she said, the decision made with a mixture of trepidation and resolve. "Send me the details, and I'll book a flight."

"Thank you, Esha. It'll be good to have you back."
