CIB HEADQUATER, MUMBAI

The following morning, the CIB headquarters was abuzz with anticipation. The arrest of Vikram Singh had set the investigation into overdrive and the entire team was eager to piece together the fragments of the puzzle that remained. Esha arrived early, her mind racing with questions about the inconsistencies they had uncovered in Vikram's alibi.

As Esha settled into her desk, she reviewed the notes from Vikram's interrogation considering the gaps in his story. While some of his contacts had corroborated his presence at a business meeting on the night of the murder, there were discrepancies in the timeline that suggested he might have had the opportunity to commit the crime.

Reyansh arrived shortly after carrying a stack of files that he placed on the table between them. "Morning, Esha. I've been going over Vikram's financial records and found some interesting transactions."

Esha leaned forward, eager to hear more. "What did you find?"

"There are several large withdrawals from his account around the time of Meera's murder," Reyansh explained, flipping open one of the files. "The amounts are significant, and they're made to an unlisted account. I think it's worth investigating further."

Esha studied the records, feeling a surge of determination. The financial trail could provide the evidence they needed to link Vikram to the crime. "Let's dig into this. If Vikram was paying someone off, we need to know who and why."

Reyansh nodded, and they both dove into the financial data, working together to trace the flow of money. As they worked, the atmosphere between them remained tense but professional, both focused on the task at hand.

Throughout the morning, the team continued to gather evidence and follow up on leads. They interviewed Vikram's contacts and scrutinized every detail of his alibi, searching for the cracks that would lead them to the truth.

Esha's phone buzzed with a message from Raj, who was out conducting interviews. Found something interesting. Meet me in the conference room?

She showed the message to Reyansh, who nodded. "Let's see what he's got."

They made their way to the conference room, where Raj was waiting with a stack of files spread across the table. His expression was serious but there was a spark of excitement in his eyes.

"What did you find?" Esha asked, eager for any new information.

Raj gestured to the files. "I've been digging into Vikram's business dealings and found something curious. There's a series of transactions between Vikram and a company called Horizon Enterprises. It's a shell company with ties to some shady characters."

Reyansh frowned, studying the documents. "What kind of dealings?"

"Mainly property acquisitions and transfers of large sums of money" Raj explained. "The thing is, Horizon Enterprises doesn't actually seem to exist. It's a front for something else."

Esha's mind raced with possibilities. "Do you think it could be a cover for illegal activities? Maybe money laundering or bribery?"

"It's definitely possible" Raj said. "I've contacted some of my sources to get more information but it's going to take some time to unravel everything."

Reyansh looked thoughtful. "If Horizon Enterprises is a front, Vikram could be using it to hide something—or someone. We need to find out who's behind it."

The team agreed to keep digging into the financial records and any connections Vikram might have to Horizon Enterprises. The stakes were higher than ever and Esha felt a renewed sense of urgency to uncover the truth.

As the day wore on, Esha and Reyansh returned to their desks, poring over the information they had gathered. Despite their progress, Esha couldn't shake the feeling that they were still missing a crucial piece of the puzzle.

Later in the afternoon, Reyansh received a call from one of the contacts they had interviewed the day before. As he listened, his expression shifted from curiosity to concern.

After ending the call, Reyansh turned to Esha. "That was one of Vikram's former business partners. He mentioned something interesting—Vikram had been acting strangely in the weeks leading up to Meera's murder, almost as if he was afraid of something."

Esha felt a chill run down her spine. "Did he say what might have been causing it?"

"No, but he suggested that Vikram was involved in something dangerous. Something he didn't want anyone to find out about" Reyansh said, his voice grave.

Esha's mind whirled with possibilities. If Vikram had been involved in something illicit, it could provide the motive they had been searching for. "We need to find out what he was hiding—and why he was so scared."

The conversation reignited their determination, and they spent the rest of the day following up on every lead, determined to unravel the truth behind Vikram's actions.

As the evening approached, the team gathered in the conference room to discuss their progress. They were exhausted but fueled by the knowledge that they were getting closer to solving the case.

"We've made significant progress today" Esha said, addressing the team. "The connections to Horizon Enterprises and the inconsistencies in Vikram's alibi are promising leads. We need to keep pushing."

Reyansh nodded, adding "We're closing in on the truth. Let's keep up the momentum and see this through."

As the team dispersed for the night, Esha felt a mix of exhaustion and determination. The investigation was taking its toll but the possibility of finally bringing justice to Meera Khanna drove her forward.

Later that night as Esha sat in her apartment, she found herself reflecting on the day's events. The case was consuming her thoughts, but so were her unresolved feelings about Reyansh.

Their partnership had been strained since her return and she couldn't ignore the tension that lingered between them. Esha knew they needed to address their personal issues but with the case heating up, she wasn't sure when—or how—they would find the time.

For now, Esha pushed those thoughts aside, focusing on the task at hand. The truth was within reach, and she was determined to see it revealed.
