CORRIDOR/ENTRANCE HALL (FIFTY YEARS AGO)
[Everything is de-saturated, save for Anna, who retains the true, rich colors of the present. She glances about, disoriented, then spies a boy (TOM RIDDLE) at the end of the corridor, peering around a corner.]
Anna: (whispers) Wow... For this guy i would turn straight.
Everyone chuckled. Regulus checked the guy out and nodded.
[A flurry of shadows dances on the wall beyond the boy, revealing the presence of others, unseen, in an adjoining room. As Anna advances, low voices emanate from the shadows. As she reaches the boy, Anna speaks in a whisper:]
Anna: Excuse me. Could you tell me where I am? Hello...? [The boy doesn't respond, eyes staked to the activity in the adjoining room... which Anna sees now is the Entrance Hall. A group of elder witches and wizards -- Hogwarts Professors -- talk amongst themselves, then... abruptly go silent. Make way for two young wizards, bearing a stretcher.]
Voice(O.S.): Riddle. [The boy wheels... and looks right through Anna. Anna turns, too. It's Dumbledore... fifty years younger.]
"Is this memory?" Asked Narcissa.
Tom Riddle: Professor Dumbledore.
"Dumbledore looks same." Said James.
Dumbledore: It's not wise to be wandering around this late, Tom.
Tom Riddle: Yes, Professor. I suppose I -- I just had to see for myself, if... [Riddle glances toward the young wizards, watches them carry the stretcher out of the Hall, into the night.]
Tom Riddle: ... the rumors were true.
Dumbledore: I'm afraid they are, Tom.
Tom Riddle: About the school as well? They wouldn't really close Hogwarts, would they, Professor?
Dumbledore: Headmaster Dippet may have no choice, I'm afraid.
Tom Riddle: Sir? If it all stopped. If the person responsible was caught...
Barty, Narcissa, Regulus and Remus look at him suspiciously.
Dumbledore: Is there something you wish to tell me, Tom?
Tom Riddle: (a long beat) No, sir. Nothing. [Dumbledore studies Riddle for a moment.]
Dumbledore: Very well then. Hurry along. [Dumbledore strides directly past Anna, not seeing her. When he is gone, Riddle moves quickly, toward the dungeon steps.]
CORRIDOR - DUNGEONS
[Up ahead, a splinter of light leaks through a door. Riddle puts his eye to the crack. Inside, someone is speaking.]
Voice (O.S.): C'mon, Aragog. Gotta get yeh outta here... C'mon now.. in the box... [As Riddle pushes the door clear, Anna sees a second, smaller room. Crouched by a box, is a huge boy... young Hagrid. A strange clicking comes from the box.]
"What was that?" Asked Remus.
Tom Riddle: Evening, Hagrid. [Hagrid slams the door shut.] I'm going to have to turn you in, Hagrid. I don't think you meant it to kill anyone --
Young Hagrid: No, yeh can't! Yeh don' understand!
"No way! Hagrid wouldn't do that!" Said Lily. Everyone agreed.
Tom Riddle: Hagrid. The dead girl's will be here tomorrow. The least Hogwarts can do is make sure the thing that killed their daughter is slaughtered.
Young Hagrid: It wasn' him! Aragog never'd kill no one! Never!
Riddle: Monsters don't make good pets, Hagrid. Now... stand aside... [Riddle draws his wand, Blasts the closed door off its hinges, extinguishing the torches within. Anna gasps. A low-slung creature with a tangle of black legs, a gleam of many eyes and a pair of razor-sharp pincers, scuttles out of the shadows. As Riddle points his wand at it, Hagrid leaps... ]
Young Hagrid: Noooooo! [As they tumble to the floor, the entire room whirls off its axis, spinning, and Anna finds herself plummeting through color and shadow again, falling flat on his back to the floor of the Gryffindor Common Room, the ceiling above spinning, slowly, to a stop. Anna rises, dashes upstairs.]
GIrls' DORMITORY
[Anna rushes to Rose, shakes her awake, whispering intensely.]
Anna: Rose! Rose!
Rose: What? What's happened...?
Anna: It was Hagrid. Hagrid opened the Chamber of Secrets fifty years ago.
"Come on! You can't actually believe that." Said James.
HOGWARTS GROUNDS
[Anna and Rose walking together across the grounds.]
Rose: We don't even know this Riddle. He sounds like a dirty, rotten snitch to me.
Anna: The monster had killed someone, Rose. What would we do?
Lily agreed.
Rose: Look. Hagrid's our friend. We know that he can't even keep a simple secret, do you really think he would kill someone?
"No." Said everyone.
Anna: Not intentionally, but you know how he is. He might have thought Slytherin monster is cute and let it out. We could ask him.
"Ok, she has a point." Said Barty.
Rose: That'd be a cheerful visit. Hello, Hagrid. Tell us, have you been setting anything mad and hairy loose in the castle lately?
Hagrid: Mad an' hairy? Wouldn' be talkin' 'bou me, now would yeh? [The duo wheels, spots Hagrid grinning at them. They instantly look guilty.]
Anna/Rose: No! [Hagrid looks at them curiously. Anna nods to the strange canister in his hand.]
Anna: What's that you've got, Hagrid?
"Changing the topic. Good strategy." Said Evan.
Hagrid: Flesh-Eatin' Slug Repellent. Fer the Mandrakes, yeh know. Accordin' ter Professor Sprout, they still got a bit o' growin' up ter do, but once their acne clears up, we'll be able to chop 'em up, stew 'em, an' get those people in the hospital un-Petrified. 'Til then, you three best watch yerselves, all righ'? [They nod, watch Hagrid lope away. Just then, Parvati comes running up. She looks pale with fright.]
Parvati: Anna, I don't know who did it, but... you'd better come.
GRYFFINDOR TOWER DORMITORY
[Anna's space is a disaster: trunk riffled, drawers flung open, bedclothes strewn on the floor.]
Rose: It had to be a Gryffindor. Nobody else knows our password. Unless, it wasn't a student...
Anna: They were looking for something and they found it... Tom Riddle's diary is gone.
Everyone looks nervous.
MARBLE STAIRCASE
[Anna, dressed in her Quidditch robes, dashes down the staircase with Rose. Down below, Rose spies Neville.]
Rose: Hey, Neville! Going to the match?
[Neville looks up, startled, then shakes his head and exits.]
Rose: I tell you, he gets weirder and weirder by the day...
Voice (O.S.): Kill this time... Let me rip... Tear.
Everyone shivers.
"Don't follow the voice!" Said Lily.
"Give up, Lily-flower, we both know she will follow." Said James. Lily saighted tiredly.
[Anna freezes. Rose stops, knowing by her face... ]
Rose: No... don't tell me... [Anna turns, as if following the sound, absently touching her fingers to the wall as she glances around. Rose studies her with great interest -- studies her fingers -- then, abruptly, Anna turns away, shakes her head: it's gone. Rose looks up, eyes vaguely upon Anna, but her mind miles away. ]
"Isn't it the way she acted when she talked to snake?" Said Barty.
"She did. You think snake is the Slytherin monster, don't you?" Asked Remus.
"Snake is Slytherin symbol, It would makes sense if it was Slytherin monster, also, only Anna is able to talk to snakes, so it would explain why she is the only one who can hear, but what kind of snake pertifies people?" Asked Regulus.
Rose: Anna... I think I've just understood something! I've got to go to the library! [As Rose sprints back up the stairs, Anna yells.]
Anna: What do you understand?! [But Rose's gone.]
REAR OF QUIDDITCH STADIUM
[Anna and her teammates march toward the Quidditch tower. The cheers of the crowd are heard.]
Wood: Listen up now. We play our game, Hufflepuff doesn't stand a chance. We're stronger, quicker, smarter.
"I feel offended for Hufflepuff." Said Lily.
George: Not to mention they're dead terrified Anna'll Petrify them if they fly anywhere near him.
People chuckle.
Wood: That, too. [Just then, Professor McGonagall appears, barring their way.]
Wood: Professor McGonagall --
Professor McGonagall: This match has been cancelled.
"You can't cancell Quidditch!" Said Quidditch players.
Wood: Cancelled! They can't cancel
Quidditch --
Professor McGonagall: Silence, Wood! You will return to Gryffindor Tower now. Mr. Weasleys, Ms. Potter, There's something the you need to see. But first we must get Percy.
"Is it Rose?" Asked worried James.
HOSPITAL WING
[McGonagall pauses outside the door, turns to Anna, George, Fred and Percy.]
Professor McGonagall: I warn you. This will be a bit of a shock. [She opens the door. Madam Pomfrey is leaning over a bed where a girl lies. As she straightens up, we see the girl is...]
Fred/George/Anna/Percy: Rose!
Everyone looks concerned for girl.
Professor McGonagall: She was found near the library. Along with this. Does it mean anything to any of you? [She holds up a small circulus mirror. They shake their heads. McGonagall nods gravely, leads them out. As they go, the camera drifts to Rose's hand. Clinched tight in her stiff knuckles, barely visible, is... a piece of paper.]
