I watch Mattheo closely as he stands behind Mona, his comments from my dorm repeating in my head. Jokes or not, I wanna bash his fucking skull in.

I drag my tongue along the inside of my cheek, Mona gesturing between the two of men. Mattheo holds his hand out in greeting, Charlie hesitating to take it but eventually shaking his hand.

"Welcome to Dragonheim, Bulgarian school for dragon training, riding, and fighting." Charlie says, the blonde returning to his side.

She loops his arm through his, the dragon huffing steam towards the lot of them. Then Mona speaks up again and I find myself getting excited at the simplest sound of her voice.

"Did you bring the thing?" She asks him, crossing her arms over her chest.

Mattheo nods, holding out his hand. She holds hers beneath his, a black ring dropping into her palm and she curls her hand around it. I can see the shift in her mood from where I stand, her muscles tensing as she stands a little bit straighter.

I straighten, too.

She looks back at me over her shoulder, nodding once before heading for the main doors, footprints pressed into the snow behind her.

Mattheo goes to follow her but I grab him at the last second, my hands tight on his collar as I pin him to the spiked metal fence. I push him back so the tip of the spike is pressing sharply into his back.

"You already hurt one of the people I care about most," I say darkly, bring my face closer to his. "Touch Mona, you're dead. Think about her, and you're dead. Fucking breathe in her direction, I will rip your arms off and feed them to the dragons all while you're still alive to watch."

His lips quirk up at the edges, his scarred brow raising in amusement. "Black in love, huh? Never thought I'd see the day."

I ignore his remarks, pushing him harder and hearing the hiss as the spike bites into his skin.

"Do you understand?" I ask him.

"I understand." He echoes back.

I release him, dusting off his shoulders before stepping around him. Charlie and Aurelia are quick by my sides, following me as I parade up the steps and through the large doors.

Aurelia's heeled combat boots click loudly on the tiled floor, though she still only reaches my shoulders. Her black, long sleeve dress hangs to her upper thighs, legs covered by black thermal leggings. Her blonde hair shines under the flickering candle lights, her pale blue eyes an icy gray.

Charlie is on my right, his gray shirt clinging to the muscles in his arms and chest. Black cargo pants hang on his hips, secured by a belt. Dark combat boots adorn his feet, fitted with knives. His red hair looks almost brown in the dim illumination, his brown eyes almost black.

"Mona's got the horcrux." I say, hearing Mattheo skitter behind us. "Now we just need to figure out a way to destroy it."

"Dragon flames are at a crazy high temperature." Aurelia starts, pushing her hair behind her ears. "We could melt down the ring."

"That won't get rid of it." I mutter in thought, climbing the steps to the second floor. We round the corner and climb up the second set of stairs up to the third.

The dorms are on this floor, Charlie's and Aurelia's being right across from Mona and I's. I slow just outside of our room, hearing her pacing steps through the door.

I knock twice before pushing it open, allowing the others to follow me inside.

Mona's frozen in the center of the room, staring down at the piece of jewelry in her hands. Her dark hair frames her face, lips pouted in thought.
