Grabbing a steaming hot cup of mocha, Ananya walked over to the balcony area of the cafeteria situated on the fifth floor of her office building. Inhaling a deep breath, she stood with her eyes closed when the soft salty breeze of Mumbai kissed her skin. Oh, how she craved some peace! But if only, that unusually irresistible ex of hers left her for a moment to have some.
Advay and Ananya had started dating in the second year of their college. A relationship built at the tender age of nineteen had grown and matured along with them for six years until it was a time that it got too tough to handle and one night Ananya had just stormed off Advay's apartment. They never marked each other as exes, but they were blocked from each other's contacts, and social media, the frequent visits to each other's cubicles had reduced to being negative, and just like that everything had ended between them, except, for one thing. The mutual feeling of love that they still harboured for each other.
The wall of ego had shackled them from making any positive advances towards each other, and thus there they stood, stealing glances and hating each other. The office that once adored the couple now found chances to escape being around them and being a part of their cold tension.
"You haven't eaten anything." A voice, familiar to Ananya's ear brought her back to reality from the memory lane of the moments she and Advay had spent together.
"Not a thing of your concern." She said without glancing at him and walked away as soon as she gave her reply, leaving an angry Advay behind sighing to calm his nerves. He was enraged by this feeling of aloofness from her. He wasn't wrong, neither was she, but yet somehow she found it convenient to weigh down everything on him.
Not wanting to but still forced by his heart, he followed her back. He had to ensure she ate something on her periods, she had a habit of skipping meals at this time of month which later on always backfired on her health. Angry or not, he didn't wanna see her puking and lying sick on the bed. It had been a month since they broke up, and he hated how he was still tracking her period cycle, trying to peek at her from the glass wall of his colleague's cabin or take care of her through his friends by sending them with things instead of himself.
"Uh, Meera, I needed a favour." He spoke walking briskly to her table. Meera who was busy attacking her cheese sandwich looked up to find her friend's ex standing in front of her. Raising a brow, she perked her chin up asking what he was there for.
"Ananya hasn't eaten anything. If you're free after this, make sure she gets something in her stomach. And, if possible get her a brownie." He said awkwardly not meeting her gaze and searching his nape.
"Why don't you guys already kiss and make up?" She asked, rolling her eyes. She was tired of playing the postman between them. Somedays, Ananya would send her with an aspirin to give to Advay whenever he would be working late while, somedays Advay would be coming with similar demands as today. It was all cute but she was tired of playing the pigeon between them, besides she hated seeing her favourite couple acting this weird around each other.
