Bens POV

I was in the auditorium watching the pep rally I was alone, I was usually alone except when I was with my best friend Mandy but she doesn't like pep rallies because...probably something to do with male privilege.  Anyways the cheerleaders were performing when Mandy walked in and sat next to me.  I was cheering for the cheerleaders when Mandy said

"Really Ben?"

"What?"

I'll admit I was getting a little too into it... maybe.

"How we doing bulldogs?" Principal Mossler said way too happily. The whole crowd cheered. "I said how we doing Bulldogs?". The whole crowd cheered louder, including me. Mandy gave me a "what the hell?" look and I responded with a "what?" look before promptly shutting up. Then Principle Mossler introduced Graham Lansing, King of the Everests. Graham mocked Principle Mossler's way of trying to make us hyped for the assembly.

"Why do people insist on treating Graham Lansing like he's some sort of golden god?" Mandy asked.

I scoffed before responding "Well, because he kind of is".

"Please, he is just an entitled dumbass who uses his nice smile and male privilege to fail upwards to become king of the Everests".

"So you think he has a nice smile?" I smirked at her.

"That's your takeaway?" She asked offended.

I shrugged before returning my attention to the assembly. They were just about to announce the prom theme and Melissa McCormack, head of the prom committee and the second most popular girl in school came up and took the mic from Graham.

"Thank you Graham, and now for this year's theme, drumroll please..."

Mandy scoffed, "Who cares? You know it's probably just old-fashioned nepotism..." I pretended to be listening to Mandy's rant about Graham.

"Mandy shut up" I said to her holding up a hand.

"Excuse me?"

"People are trying to listen; I'm just trying to be polite." I refocused on Melissa.

"Ok, so this year's theme is... 80's!" The crowd cheered until suddenly the lights went out and Ghostbusters began playing through the speakers.

"It's a promposal!" Mandy rolled her eyes and went on another rant about how they are bad and blah blah blah. The boys came out with guns reading "prom?" but it got awkward fast when the girl thought it was Graham proposing not her boyfriend.

Me and Mandy left the hall and she went to her guidance counselor and I went to Biology.
